The lyrics are rude. Not because of the no.
Because of the question. This is my personal opinion and as such is a perfectly valid POV.
I will of course give my daughter advice when she wants it. If she dumps a guy because he makes her feel unsafe, happened, I will support her. If a guy comes to me and asks me for permission/blessing to marry her I will see that as rude.
Should he want me to like him? Yeah that's human. It's tough marrying into a family where most of them think badly of you. Should he seek my permission/blessing hell no and it's rude to ask. The only one that should be asking me if my daughter should marry the guy is my daughter if she's unsure and wants advice.
That's it. The guy asking puts his opinion of my weighing in on the same level as my daughter's if not above it. Her answer is literally the only one that should matter to him. He loves her he should want me and her to maintain a good relationship if she wants but he in no way should think or express that I do or do not have a say in her life.
The lyrics are rude because the guy acts like he gives a crap what her dad says and then gets pissy when he doesn't say what the guy wants him to say and declares the guy's opinion doesn't mean crap now. This is part of why it doesn't really matter.
It's like if someone wants Pizza for lunch has decided they're having pizza for lunch then asks me what I want for lunch, "We should get Chinese" "No screw you we're getting pizza" "Then why the hell did you even ask me?"
Only one possible answer I could give makes both parties happy every other answer leaves people feeling disrespected. If my opinion doesn't matter don't ask for it.
