Locally, some DJ went off on a rant about how Halloween "needs to be taken back as the Christian holiday it is..." She was totally serious, never mind the holiday's pagan roots, and how it has nothing to do with Christianity at all. In fact, I don't think there's one holiday, or symbol that is 100% Christian.
As to the store being open, there's probably a reason for it. Not everyone (including myself) celebrates Easter. Many people choose to travel on Easter Sunday if their family is close. Should they end up stranded if they run out of gasoline? What about the railroads and other 24/7 industries? Sure, they might reduce traffic, but they won't shut down completely.
