  • old =/= creepy

sorry just had to get this off my chest....

Seeing soooo many posts on CS with "OMG that guy was totally creepy hitting on me when he's like 25 and I'm 18!"

Get over yourself-maybe he's a jerk for hitting on an employee while they're on the clock, but "creepy" just because of their(assumed*) age(maybe*gasp* they assumed you're older, or you assumed wrong)-that's quite a stretch of logic there

sooo when did being over 20 =instant creepy?

I never batted an eye when someone older than myself asked me on a date(the few times I did accept they ended up treating me TONS better than guys my age that only wanted a "roll in the hay").

Also general flirting=/= "hitting on" just FYI-I have a naturally flirtatious personality(I'm sure BJ would agree with that assessment -though if I was 10 years younger and single...... )-I'm not hitting on anyone-really-I'm married-it's just the way I'm wired.

WTF? really-am I "creepy" after all I'm 33, spouse is 24-he pursued me, we've been together for 5 years married for 3, known each other for 6.

Also sick of the "I'm 18/20/50 billion but totally look like a middle schooler/junior high student/fetus"-Really? looking at pics from middle school you haven't changed a bit? Suuuure, right, uh-huh, . I have not grown since I was 12-doesn't mean I still look 12-I'm just the same height/weight as I was at that age(though my feet gave up growing around age 8-I wear kid's shoes which is kind of embarrassing-went shoe shopping last week and almost bought a pair of Hannah Montana shoes)

*unless the person is carded-do you really "know" their age or are you just assuming-because for some odd reason that I don't understand people think my husband and I are around the same age-or that he's older(I don't see it-I pretty much think I look.....well 33).

"I look like a middle schooler" doesn't mean "I look exactly like my picture from my middle school." It means "I look like people who are in middle school." Maybe they looked like an elementary school person in middle school. Do you really not know anyone who looks younger than they really are?

I think part of it is simply down to younger people taking more notice of age as an important factor. Remember the playground at school where a nine-year-old would say, "But X would say that s/he's only eight..."

A chum of mine reckons that as long as everyone's above the age of consent, about ten years either way is acceptable.

I just leave it to the people who know what they're doing. I've yet to meet either of them.

In defense of some of these guys (except the ones being inappropriate), sometimes its hard to tell exactly how old a girl is. There have been times when I have entertained thoughts about a certain female only to find out she's much younger than I initially thought she was. Of course, I have never been creepy or otherwise inappropriate about expressing my interest. I hope I never have, anyway.

Also, many of the people who do the "OMG, gross; that older guy is hitting on me!" seem to want to think that every single guy who smiles at them or makes conversation with them is hitting on them.

And also, sometimes, have a mental image of every man who 'hits on them' as being total sex crazed rapist perverts.

Not to say that there aren't sex crazed pervert rapists out there, but their numbers are far too low to react like that.

I've had a similar problem a couple times with people my own age (17 then, now 18) while I was at that age, in that they took an attempt at conversation or a complement as scandalous stalker dirty talk-type flirting.

If my words sound forced it's because I'm an introvert AKA shy! But I'm making an attempt to be nice! I thought people appreciated that...

So, anyway, there's plenty of OMG creepy going around that is even less deserving than a few years, but where that is the factor, I totally put it down to people under 20 thinking in terms of years rather than decades within which ages are compatible (does anyone understand me right now? It's hard to tell sometimes, I think I'm rambling too much...)

It's acceptable no matter how many years separates them. 18+80 is legal and perfectly possible to be a marrage born of true love.
Anyone remember the last marriage of Rosemary Clooney? Her husband was quite young, and devoted to her.... Before anyone thinks about it, she was near dead broke when they married.

you know, I have met some old(er) guys who were creepy (for example, if you know I was born the year you graduated high school and you make the comment that I'm a bit older than your normal taste, yeah, you're creepy). That doesn't mean though that all old(er) guys are creepy... I've known plenty who are just cool guys who are looking for friends and are like Blaque who are just natural flirts and do it naturally, not because they are looking for wild and crazy sex.

And Wingates, I think that young people thinking in years rather than decades makes perfect sense. I don't think age is that important, but I do think stage of life is, and when someone is under 20 or early 20s they are just starting their adult life and will likely be attracted to those are also just starting their adult life, getting their education, starting careers etc, which the vast majority of people doing that will all be within a few years of each other at most (there are of course exceptions to that rule). It's not until after a person is on the life stage of settled down into their career and their adulthood that the age window for other people in that life stage widens up to be over a decade.

Oh tell me about it!!!! I've had this sort of crap ideology for years!

The number of years that a meatsack has been wandering around does not have any influence on the personality or behaviour patterns of the being inside it... just because a certain year marker has been reached does not automatically mean 'creepy' because such a person is able to recognise an attractive person (of any definition of 'attractive'). Nor should such an almost arbitrary system of classifying people alter the way that such people view others, nor should it change what is a basic biological urge.

I find it quite disappointing that humans will judge other humans on something so... ridiculous! I mean, in the long run, is a mere number going to be enough for someone to ditch the absolute love of their life? Their potential soulmate?? Let's just say, you end up chatting with someone, you find them 'attractive' (for whatever definition of the word you want), and get on great, fall in love, enjoy each other's company, have similar interests, have fun together, etc... and then find out that they're X years old - "OMG NO!!!!! Run away.... leave me alone you old creep!!!!"

No, it doesn't make sense... neither does pre-judging!

Another thing I have noticed is those that do themselves up and love to flirt; but, when a guy that is not up to their standards flirt back then he is automatically OMG!!!!!eleventy!!! creepy. Yeah, I think those girls think way too much of themselves.

Half your age plus 7 years, at least that's what has always come up in discussions I've had.

Well, when someone who looks about the same age as my father tries to make a pass, yes, I find that creepy. Ditto online, when I can see their age (or, at least, the age they've admitted to the website). I prefer to date guys my age or a little bit older, but no more than 10 years or so. Just my preference. Well, that, and when you get to guys in their mid-30's, a lot of them have kids, and that's really not something I'm interested in either.

Anyway, why do I find men who look 50-60 years old who are hitting on me creepy? Because I look like I'm in my mid-20s. And all I can think is, "That man who looks like my dad is hitting on me, EWEWEWEW". Sorry, it's a very knee-jerk, Oedipean reaction.

But just because someone finds something creepy as a knee jerk reaction (understandable), it doesn't not necessarily make that person a creep at all.

It does if they are making suggestive comments, or touching you repeatedly, or eyeing you up in a way that makes you uncomfortable... especially if you are at work! O_o

If I'm out, and dressed in a way that emphasises my boobs and legs, and a guy hits on me, he's given the benefit of the doubt first cuz I know full well that wearing dress up clothes will make me hit on able. However, if after I've told him I'm not interested and have a boyf, he persists; then he's a creep; no matter if he's 18 or 80. I will then tell him to go and play in traffic; and if he refuses, then my male mates and/or boyf will be happy to persuade him otherwise.

However at work, I don't have that kind of power. I can leave my till if a man is making me uncomfortable and call security, but that makes me feel far more powerless and out of control. Particularly as I am wearing a uniform consisting of a long sleeved shirt and sensible trousers; hardly sexy wear so I have the right to not be hit on.
"Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I used to be and you still are."

I am a natural born flirt. I get that from my grandfather and great grandfather. Just because someone tells you that you look nice. does not mean that they are hitting on you.

oh, slightly tangental, but related. I have the same problem who will base off of weight. My mother is guilty of it... when I told her about K her first questions weren't about what type of guy is he, her first questions were (and in this order), where does he work, how old is he, and how much does he weigh. OK, where does he work is somewhat legit... she doesn't want me dating a deadbeat, I can understand that... but weight... seriously, what the fuck does weight have to do with who a person is?
