  • Grownups acting like children

Some of you might have heard of this guy. He's had this website up for about eight years now, and it's still up...even though he's finally found his Tinkerbell! When I first saw this guy's site, I couldn't help but burst out laughing -- especially at some of his costumes.. And I thought he'd be waiting for his Tinkerbell a looong time!

I'm all for keeping our inner child alive and all that. But I think this guy (and his now his wife) takes it a bit too far!

Words elude me at the moment. Just. Wow.

I've seen that guy before; specifically, in a forum picture.

And that pretty much says it all. O.o On the other hand, he's not hurting anyone, so leave him to it, says I. XD

I tend to have a childish mindset at times, or at least playful. My usual excuse is that there's a whole industry out there that's aimed at entertaining children, so why not? Fact is, the actual childish entertainment isn't that appealing - just acting like a silly bugger.

This guy? He provides a distraction for people and he's harmless as has been said above. If that continues, why not? It's innocent fun. Odd, but innocent.

But at least you don't have a whole website dedicated to you in transformers costumes......

As long as no one's getting hurt, I don't care what people do. I find the guy in the OP to be a bit...odd...but...whatever.

I've got a My Little Pony collection. So, I can't make fun of anybody else's childish habits. Getting more involved with the real horses has cut down on that hobby significantly. Haven't bought any ponies in well over a year. (I feel like I'm at some sort of intervention...) LOL

I can be a bit childish sometimes but that's just taking it too far.

You know what, I thought the same as you. I would go there to just shake my head. And then I had this epiphany: Fuck it. He's not hurting anyone, he's happier than most people, by all accounts beloved of his friends, and true to himself. So whatever.

                  You go, honey.

I dropped him a line once, right after I had this shift in thought. I said, "Hey man, you sure can sew. Look, I dress up in costumes too, so about all I can say at this point is props to you for having the guts to be who you are. You're all right."

He wrote back and we had a conversation. He's nice.

Personally, I think this guy rocks. I love dressing up in costume, and I have dressed up as elves and fairies before. I even have pointy elf ears and butterfly wings. Do I do it every day? No, because people would look at me funny and I don't want people to point and snicker at me (and it takes more work to get dressed up like that than throwing on jeans and a t-shirt.) Would I do it every day, if I wasn't as shy as I am? Heck yeah.

Do adults still dress up for Halloween? A lot do, yeah. Oh, but it's Halloween, so it's acceptable for adults to dress/act like that once a year. What's wrong with adults dressing or acting like that more often? As other people have said, he's not hurting anyone, and he sure does seem happy, which is a lot more than most people can claim.

Someone here made a comment about "at least you don't have a website dedicated to your Transformers costumes." Let me show you this:

People do this kind of thing a lot more often than other people may realize. I can think, off the top of my head, of at least half a dozen anime/video game conventions in the state of Texas alone, where hundreds, sometimes thousands of people of all ages make their own costumes and show up for the simple reason of having fun and meeting other people like themselves. Most of them don't take it to the extreme like Peter Pan here does, but I say, more power to him for going all the way.

If I had the money, or could sew, I'd walk around all day in Jedi robes. I gotta stop commenting in this thread before someone nearby reads this and I get committed.

However, I would NOT wear my hood up in a convenience store, I hear they like to persecute Jedi. (reference from another thread.)

I used to, back when I was a teen and going thru my Goth phase, walk around all day in black clothes and black and white makeup. I looked horrific, but it was my choice just as it's this guy's choice to be Peter Pan.

Thank you for that explosive coffee nasal rinse.

Excuse me while I fetch a towel to dry off my monitor, my keyboard, and my shirtfront.

Well, it's not fair to take the comment out of context. I was just poking fun. Besides, I can support someone's decision to "do what they want" while still thinking their actions are strange. My point was that some people's actions seem more strange to me than others.

Peter Pan guy is odd. No doubt about it. But then, I've gotten flak for having over 100 My Little Ponies sitting in my basement...so whatever. I'd fully expect to get some weeeeiiiird stares if I dressed in cos-play outside of Halloween. If that sort of thing doesn't bother him, that's great. Personally, I figure I've got enough to deal with. LOL
