    I don't think they could come out and say they think puppy mills are OK if they put out a press release saying this!

    This is almost one litter a month! What kind of reputable / legitimate breeder would be a puppy factory like this?

      The owner of the stud doesn't register the litters - the owner of the bitch does.

      No reputable breeder (even most unethical ones) would never even come close to 11 litters between October of one year and June of the next (that's only 8 months).

      If you're producing that many litters in that small amount of time then you are a puppy mill.

        And just when I was starting to like the AKC! (They recently began allowing mixed breeds to compete in non-conformation shows, which makes me happy.)

        As draggar said, reputable breeders don't have 11 litters a year. Due to the intense care that the puppies need and the associated costs, most people advise that you don't go to a breeder with more than 2 litters a year, as more is a sign that the breeder isn't in it for the good of the breed and the good of the pups.
