  • Am I just being a kid again?

My mom is behind on some of the bills that affect me and I owe her money so I am just having my paychecks deposited into her account and have her give me a set amount I decided each month as my spending money.

It seems easier since I can't get a checking account right now. Would you do this? Would this be a bad idea for you?

    Discuss.

Under most circumstances, I would not do this. I'll make several assumptions in the following, but I hope you'll see why I worry about situations like this.

You don't have access to your mom's checking account. If the money you're leaving in her checking account is what you owe her, ok. If not, you might as well wave that money goodbye. Even if she doesn't spend it, the places that she owes money can debit her checking account for what she owes them. (They can do this even if she's only ever written one check to them out of that account.) Alternatively, they could get a levy against her and the bank will have to withdraw all the money out of the account (up to the amount of the levy) to send to the creditor.

If you can even get a savings account, you'd likely be better off holding your money there than in somebody else's account.

I owe my mom about 4k not counting my portion of the monthly bills. She is behind on her bills it seems the quickest most efficient way to pay her back and make sure the bills are secure.

In that case, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Honestly it sounds fine to me. Keep track how much is going in there and when your paid up stop. Or rather can you split the amount and get some in a hard check and the rest deposited?

What about a online account for a checking account if you have to deposit it all?

We have an online account I can watch the money and the balances and I still get my pay stubs.

Spliting it isn't an option because I can't cash a paper check unless I go to my employer's bank which is only open during the hours I work. I could potentially take a 8 hours of PTO every month to go to the bank but I would rather not use it in that way.
