I'm currently at uni, so in term time I have virtually no contact with children. Exceptions are fast food joints and shops, which I go to as little as possible (not to avoid kids, I just have a general disdain for shopping).
At home, it's an utterly different story. I'm the oldest of 4 girls, ages 17, 12 and 2! Don't get me wrong, I love my sisters, but when I return to this house full of children and their often bratty friends, I really miss my uni.
I'm not a child hater (as my user name might suggest to those classically educated) but age-restricted places are a god send in my opinion. I was a kid once and didn't enjoy going to places that weren't family-friendly. The pub was fine in summer because of the mini playground outside, but in the winter I just wanted to go home, or at least somewhere more fun!
I think it's outright selfish of this woman to expect to take her pweshush everywhere with her. Not only does it put restrictions on her friends, but can ruin other adults' enjoyment of their night, not to mention the child's. No matter how 'cool' this three-year-old is, I doubt she'd be that happy in a place where she couldn't join in the fun, got annoyed glares from everyone else and had no other kids to play with. Take your child somewhere she might enjoy, like a crèche or something, then go do your own thing (this is what my parents did when they needed to run long, boring errands) and pick her up afterwards, then everybody is happy!
