I'm a bit surprised they even bothered to publish the letter, given how attricious it is... unless that was part of the point? If someone who has access to a wealth of information can be so ignorant, just think how the populous of China is given thier lack of information resources?

Just out of curiosity, what is the traditional Tibetan Govt? I know the DL is sort of head of state, but what about admin?
ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?

SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

The west would call it a theocracy. Dalai Lama as head of state, administrative functions performed by monks.

Buddhism isn't really a religion, though, so I wouldn't call it a theocracy so much as an enlightened monarchy.

            *cynical laugh*
We have no choice on the matter now. We're well and truly Welcoming Our New Chinese Overlords at this point.
Once we started offering Treasury Bonds on the open market and considering that the Central Bank of China owns half or a little bit over half of the ones currently outstanding, it makes absolute sense why they became our Favored Trading Partner and why we currently dance to their tune.
Should they cash in those Treasury Bonds, the recession we are currently having will look like paradise in comparison with the resulting bust.

The only thing keeping China from calling in US debt is that a reasonably strong US economy is good for them. They loan Americans money so they can buy Chinese exports.

With that said, the dollar can only sink so low before China bails. Especially because new markets are opening up for them in Europe.

Either way, the American economy is at China's mercy.

Often times, they will publish a letter so far out because it will outrage somebody and get people talking. As long as it's coherent, within a certain size, and doesn't violate the law (hate crimes and such) it will often get published.
