I'm not sure what it says for me, but my foremost thought while reading this was "Where the fuck do these people keep getting all this acid??"

Depending on the area, acid is cheaply available as pest control.

He will only be blinded in one eye, she was blinded in both. In the "eyes" of the law in that country a woman is worth one half of a man.

personally I think the bastard deserves it

If they're going to blind him, they should do it surgically and remove his corneas for transplanting so at least SOMETHING good could come of the whole mess.

In case anybody was wondering about this case...

His sentence was scheduled for April 15, 2009, two months ago. I haven't been able to find information on whether or not it's happened.

From this article, I've found a new element: She will be putting the drops in his eyes herself.

I'm still torn on this, but since it's now just pure revenge, I'm a lot less sympathetic to her. If the point were just to make men stop these attacks, I'd be a lot closer to the middle. Revenge, though, on this sort of scale, is distasteful.

It is possible to have multiple motivations working concurrently...

                  a) it will perhaps send a message to other men,

                  b) it is a legal form of punishment in that country,

                  c) she gets some sort of revenge.

The last might make it distasteful, but that doesn't in any way lessen the impact of a).
ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?

SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.
