  • Your Privilege is Showing

A few posts on Facebook just leave me pissed to all hell.

First one: Someone posted a Fox News link (ugh) about how a school in Wyoming cancelled their "America Day". She and her friend are complaining about how we aren't allowed to be proud to be American anymore and why would you live here if you don't consider yourself American. I just want to respond they are ignorant trash. There are a ton of reasons why you'd live here if you didn't consider yourself American. You immigrated being a huge one. My wife was forced to move to America when her parents moved here as a child. She had no say in the matter. And now she lives in America solely because I live in America. Also, when you live in America, EVERY day is "America Day". Then the OP posted about how non-Americans can just become American citizens as if it's super easy to do. It left me seething. Are Canadians not free to live in America but still be proud to be Canadian? It's shit like this that made me decide not to invite her and her family to my big wedding next year.

Second one: Guy posted an image with the phrase "Obama after 3 Muslims killed in chapel hill: 'Nobody should be targeted for their faith.' Obama after 9 Christians killed in Oregon: 'Guns!' " Picture courtesy of a Facebook group called "Enemies of Liberalism". I responded that it wasn't only Christians who were shot in Oregon and you'd think I killed a bunch of babies. He responded that I live in a hole and how instead of Obama talking about Christians being persecuted, it's all about guns because he doesn't care about Christians and Christians are being persecuted world wide. I replied that if he meant in the Middle East and Africa and Asia, sure, Christians get persecuted and it's pretty much genocide in two of those areas. But if he means in America, it's a joke and a slap in the face to the groups who deal with discrimination on a daily basis in this country.

I normally ignore these posts but my tolerance for complete and utter bullshit is at an all time low these days. I can handle people wanting to do away with guns, I get that. I get the dislike for the way America's government does things. And even though I disagree with these things, I keep most of my feelings back. But these two things are so insanely dumb and offensive that I just couldn't keep my mouth shut. Assholes like these need to be called out for their bullshit or things will never change.

Isn't Independence Day already America Day? -.-

That was so stupid I had to dig up the story. Which was even more stupid. They didn't even have an America Day they have an annual "theme" day and sometimes it was America. America Day was also the third most popular in the student polling behind Pajama Day and Lumberjack Day.

And it was the student council that nixed it. Not the school administration. The student's themselves were the ones that decided it wasn't inclusive of all students. Even better, the students voted against it 3 to 1. ( Democracy, how the fuck does that work? ). So the one's protesting ( of which there seem to be all of 8 out of 660 students ) are just a handful of dipshits.

As for #2, are you crazy? I managed to read about 4 posts into their timeline before I got a nosebleed. No good can possibly come from engaging people like that. >.>
