  • Beware Rooting for the Losing Team

It turns out that the stress from your favorite sports team losing a big game can actually be the death of you.

Among other factors associated with popular games, people respond physiologically to events that happen during gameplay with a fight or flight response, which puts more strain on the heart, which in a not-insignificant number of people results in death.

So, how long before we start seeing warnings pop up before major sports events warning those with heart conditions to not watch?

Although it's got nothing to do with sports, I used to feel physically drained watching "last of the summer wine" during the late 80's the things Foggy had Compo and Cleggy do tired me out just watching the damn show.

Damnit, I knew Max Hall would be the death of the Cardinals' season, I didn't know it would be the death of ME

Eh, I'm used to my team losing; I support Spurs. -.-

In fact, whenever they actually win, it makes me happy.

Gotcha beat. My hometown team is the Oilers. In the event they win, which is decidedly rare as of late, I'm genuinely shocked. It's gotten so bad that the papers don't even predict a chance of winning anymore, but a "how badly they screwed up."

I have an aunt and a former co-worker who are both die-hard Steelers fans. I hope Super Bowl Sunday didn't put too much stress on them.

On the other hand, my cousin and brother-in-law are both raging Ohio State fans. My cousin has been known to throw furniture if Ohio State loses a game.
