I tend to be suspicious of any story where the poster somehow slamdunk pwns a SC without reprecussions. I put up with a lot of stupidity some nights, but I'd still get in trouble if I said anything rude or hostile back to a caller. I can only poke a little bit of fun back if its blatantly obvious the caller is just jerking with us ( Prank callers for example ).

Even then, I'm suppose to just hang up.

I'm of the opinion, considering the attitude in another thread, that the "being hit on" posts aren't so much bullshit as people just don't want to hear about it. And if it's that big of a deal, I don't understand why people don't just block the people whose stories of creeps and pervs they don't want to read.

Or, you know, when they get to one of those posts they don't want to hear, they just skip it and move on. Why would anyone continue to read about something they don't want to read about?

Or if it's that big of a deal, report the thread? Or put a bug in Rap's ear?

Question then is what could we do about it? The site exists to allow people to vent about SCs, and some SCs are lecherous. An attractive person is going to have more tales about being hit on than someone who isn't as attractive. As an example, I can't say I've ever had to post about unwanted sexual advances, and for a very good reason.

Back to the topic, the medium itself prevents us from verifying most tales on the board. There are some we suspect quite strongly. Of all the posters, the only one to have provided any substantial evidence were the audio files one poster provided - now gone as a result of conditions of employment. After that, it becomes a case of hoping people are honest.

I have a feeling you would enjoy being sexually accosted, Raps.

I would like to believe everyone is being honest in their tales. If memory serves me correct, a lot of bullshitters were nipped in the bud because of on new member moderation, their stories hit red flags with some of the moderators, so they watched the posts pretty carefully. I guess being proactive is the only way to try to catch the liars, but there's not a whole lot to be done about longer standing members who are being thought of as bullshitters.

Oddly enough, out of the thousands of accounts ever created, there's not many we've felt were suspicious. Some come and go, leaving swathes of ridiculous tales in their wake - coming back on every so often to spread more. Others are consistent in what we suspect to be embellishing tales beyond the actual events in question.

                Maybe a dozen or so?

As to your earlier theory, it'll cost you a plane ticket to find out. Science can be fun!

My most recent memory was the tale of the woman pleasuring herself at the library and the guy/gal somehow falling off a ladder or something of the sort. It was a while back.

I don't mean to rile people up or take it beyond the debate nature of this place, I just feel it's in poor taste to bitch about the posters who post about being hit on when they aren't active members here or not registered here at all to defend themselves. Usually, when we have threads where people turn it into a "CS bashing" thread, members who know they are being talked about (unless they are banned) can chime in and defend their side of the stories.

Ah yes, we could prove that one. Ree spotted that he was claiming to be posting from his hospital bed and that his IP hadn't changed. Fell apart about then.

I don't feel we're attacking those who are being genuinely hit on. I'm more concerned about those lying about it.

As to banning people, apart from spammers I'd be very surprised if we went into double figures in any one year.

I was of the opinion that people just don't want to hear it from certain members anymore, because it appears to be the main theme of their posting. Not sure if it's because they are the type of people who are morally superior "You should be happy people notice you", or "You just think everyone is a creep for talking to you" or if it's because there's a lot of underlying suspicion about how honest the stories are.

Forgive me, it just strikes a nerve with me.

If it's because people are actually thinking that these members are making the stories up, that's fine and of course it should be handled. But if someone just has a problem over what someone else posts about, and it's not against the rules, then don't read what they post or don't add to any of their threads. If it's of the opinion that someone is fishing for attention, don't give them any.

And usually that "perfect thing to say" is accompanied at least mentally by "OH god did I say that out loud? Oh fuck I am so going to get fired"

The fact that while what I said was the most smart ass thing I possibly could have said to a customer didn't get me fired the one and only time something popped out of my mouth before my brain could catch up is that technically it was also a perfectly valid suggestion and my manager later thought I was just trying to be helpful when listening to the call though me and the customer knew better.

No need to apologise. It's actually slightly refreshing to be able to explain some of the behind-the-scenes gear. I also get a bit of insight as well.

It really is a shame that there are real people with real stories who are afraid to post them because of other judgmental jerks who can't accept that sometimes stuff like that really does happen.

It depends, I have remote desktop setup on my htpc, along with having a linux server that I can use to secure tunnel my traffic through when on a questionable network. Granted, most people likely don't have this sort of a setup and when they are in different locations they get IP changes.
