Actually diesel smoke doesn't look like it but it's very clean.... that black smoke is cleaner than a car's emissions.

Not exactly-less Carbon Monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons yes, however; diesel vehicles contribute over 30% of Nitrogen Oxide emissions and over 25% of particulate emissions DESPITE being only 2% of vehicles on the roadway.

Nitrogen Dioxide causes ground-level ozone, or "Smog" and the particulate matter is a carcinogen.

The percentage of vehicles on the road number is garbage. Completely useless.

The number that's important is how many miles each type drives.

As an example, I could have two cars, and some trucker has 1 semi. I have twice as many cars as he does, but I drive about 50 miles per week, while he drives something closer to 5000. So he puts out a ton of pollution but I put out hardly any, despite having twice as many vehicles.
