I agree that he's probably looking for someone to date, not to chat with.
IF he's doing so with his wife's permission, then the question is: are you wired mono, poly, or something in between? If you're mono or on the monogamous side, then you'll almost certainly end up uncomfortable at some point.
If he's doing it with his wife's permission and you're wired poly, you may wind up having to brush off undesired approaches - or maybe not. Depends on how much he respects your desire not to date him. (note: if he doesn't, run away.)
If he's NOT doing it with his wife's permission, I'd say run away. You don't want a friend who doesn't respect his wife.
