My daughter isn't a baby and hasn't been for a long time and the dad in me loved the first time she walked or said dad and such but the film geek dad in me well today oh my god squeee.
We were playing a video game me running the controls her telling me what she thought we should do while staring in awe a the wonder that is Ocarina of Time. I was being attacked by bats and I said they were driving me batty. Cue the "Oh my god dad that was a horrible joke eyeroll" followed by the Look.
I smirked innocently and said, "What? My name is batty! The logic is erratic"
My daughter looks at me and says, "I haven't seen that movie in forever"
*squeeee* I know sounds stupid but when me and my friends start speaking quotish and you quote something neither of you have seen in awhile the common response is wow I haven't seen that movie in forever.
To have my daughter the young budding geek say that to me for the first time rather than just give me a blank look. It meant the world to me. It's as special to me as the time she told a bad joke.
I guess part of it is that she doesn't spend near as much time with me as she does with her mom and grandmother. So when I see moments like that where she does something they don't do some trait that is mine my own little idosyncrocy it's like the heavens opened up and God gave me a high five.
Someday me her and my grandkids will be playing a video game she will tell a bad joke her kid will roll his/her eyes and I will just laugh.
