And it turns into a full blown conversation, over one little thing, taking up like 20 minutes of my time, or I could just go with 20 seconds of my time to type out a quick text.
That's also assuming that people reply to their texts in a timely manner

Anything I can handle that doesn't require picking up the phone is wonderful.

I spend my work days on the phone and so I hate being on the phone any other time. I have to for some things, but any bill paying is done online. Prescriptions are refilled by a scan on my android phone. Pizza ordering is done online. I don't have to talk on the phone much at all. My cell phone doesn't even get used for phone calls that much.

lol sometimes I wonbder what people are doing on the other end. Especially whne it's time sensitive. I need to know now and it took you 25 minutes to write "yes"?

That's one of those situations where picking up the phone is superior to email.

Just because you sent it 25 minutes ago doesn't mean they got it and/or read it 25 minutes ago.

Off topic, but you can refill your prescriptions by scanning them on your droid? How freaking cool is that? I'm going to have to try that!

There's an automated thing for my prescriptions on the phone, though because we can't have Walgreens anymore, we have to abide by Wal-Mart's stupid pharmacy hours (which are not convenient for night shift, but I digress).

I hate it when I'm expected to keep a text conversation going, especially if it's time for me to get ready for work or if I'm busy doing chores on the weekend, or maybe if I just want to go to the gym or shop or something. Some people in my life just cannot seem to grasp that I may want to finish this load of laundry or take it home or to lie down and take a nap, treat it like I put them on this "backburner" because I don't dedicate enough time to meaningless text conversations.

              Bleh. Whatever.

I can see your point of view too. I've been subject to the rabid texter who will send the same text multiple times and then text you over and over again asking if you got their text.

It's like, "Dude, I was driving. Chill the eff out. You just asked me how my day was, this doesn't warrant an immediate answer. An important text would be if you suddenly needed an appendix transplant and wanted me to get tested to see if our blood type is the same. "

There are some things that would be easier to text and easier to phone about.

Yes if they are with Walgreens. I can't speak for other pharmacies. It's pretty cool and again avoids a phone call

My general rule of thumb is that I call the person if the need is immediate. Otherwise, I'm more likely just to text or e-mail, especially if I'm just passing along FYI details. It just depends on the situation.

The only thing that annoys me is when someone calls me, then expects me to carry the conversation because there was no apparent purpose for the call other than the caller must have been bored.

Texting can go the same way. It's like, can I just watch this damn movie already or do I really have to keep talking to you when all you respond with is "lol" or "haha" or "yeah"???

My wife and I have a cell phone, but it has minutes. I have a Google Voice number and pass that out to people instead. Half the time, we do not hear the phone, or it is off. At least with the Google Voice number, I will get an email with the transcribed call and able to play the message that they left. I can also text from it.

It helps having that number to give out. At least, I wont get spam texts taking minutes away. Also I can call out from the Google voice number, which helps.

That drives me nuts, too. If that's the only response, then I'm content to let the conversation end there. I just say whatever is on my mind, then I wait for a substantial response that is worth a reply. I get flack from some people for not keeping in touch more often. Sorry, but I'm just not a small talk chit chat kind of person. To quote an old saying, I just assume "no news is good news."

                            Exactly!

I have quite a bit of free time this week, most of which I'm using poorly instead of packing and cleaning, but I'm trying to stay up most of the day during the days and get some stuff accomplished and enjoy the one week a year I get an entire week off.

But, I'm supposed to still be at the beck and call of some of my whiney boyfriend who is at work this week (his week off isn't for a month or so yet).

Any time I'm off and he isn't (whether I called in sick or took off), he'll send me a text when he goes on break, I'm usually still awake the first break, but not lately after midnight. Anyway, they go "I bet you're sleeping, huh?"

Love the catch22. If I'm asleep, I get attitude later for "Not being there", if I'm awake, I get treated to more "It's going ok" "Not much" "Yup". FUN!!!!

I don't always make it a priority. I'm better at ignoring it than some.

However, I can still hear that "berpberpberp" vibration in my purse, and it's just like UGH leave me alone!!!!! Everyone!!!! I'm going to freaking Nevada and never coming back!!!
