  • Too many DVD's

Way too many, I could open up as a video rental service.

Most I got at tesco's on the way home from work for £3-5, more so now that the local HMV closed (kicked out of Lion Yard they said so they could rent the unit to someone else, when there are a few empty units in there too).

I keep most in a storage unit down the road from me, but it opens during office hours (and I did a lot of 11-19:00 shifts so only had a to do list in my room), work and the odd shifts I did a few years ago killed my oomph for the cinema, even though I still have their unlimited card, last movie I saw there was Predators, so DVD's were my way of catching up with all the films I missed.

Now having that many and sometimes not enough time to watch them, I ended up boxing them still wrapped for a later date and you guessed it, I have duplicates, 6-8 at the most, but they are mostly within the last 2 months.

One I think had a different cover and it was only when I started watching it that I had dejavu, that I got last halloween with alot of other horror movies for £3 at hmv, don't recall what I paid for it first time round, but £3 wasn't so bad.

Then going through bags of DVD's from my trip oop norf in may and a tesco bag from when I was pricing up a new pc just after and a more recent purchace I find 4 bloody identicle movies £20 in duplicates in one go, kinda hard to swallow that dip in the wallet especially as I probably chucked the recipt already.

I did say at another supermarket buying equally dirt cheap movies that I wasn't sure if I had Ferris Buler already or not (had the VHS) but with the recipt I could get a refund, well with the storage unit having god knows how many dvd's (98 to a long comic box) it would take me most of the day to catalogue it all so I didn't mind knowingly being unsure of a duplicate, these others I had not even considered buying before (that I knew of).

I have willingly bought one movie atleast 3 times, first time natch, then the 2nd and 3rd both at the same time as they were in a tripple play box set and I wanted atleast one of the others that came with it, I told the cashieer I knew it was in there twice but it was IMO a good movie (atleast for the soundtrack more than anything), the movie?

Once upon a time in the west.

So I think I'll off load the dupes on my brother, he probably won't know what they are seeing as he gets all his movies from the pirate bay and will use em as beer coasters

Oh that todo shelf, I kind of arranged it by order of what I wanted to watch most, right side high left low to stick in storage, yet franklyn spent a very long time at the top till I watched it and I still haven't watched repo the genetic opera (probably get lynched for that seeing as it got alot of meantions when I first started lurking at CS)
Now the left side is my current batch of shameless screen entertainment slasher/'sploitation movies in numerical order with a few random movies inbetween to show off the shameless logo developing.

And a few months ago someone posted in things I hate about threads like "What should I watch" , with me the choice is too vast that I might have to rely on a 3rd party (probably say genetic opera won't you) else I might end up watching none.

find a second hand shop and sell them, in town here this a great little shop where I sold a bunch of stuff for almost 200 dollars a few months back.

Sell the brunt or sell the dupes?
The dupes I'm thinking of posting to my brother, the brunt, well 75% I've yet to watch and paid less than a fiver for, so 2nd hand would be pittance (even if it mounted up), I just end up buying more movies than I can watch, yet on a day off I might not even watch one.
Also I'm not keen on giving/selling watched movies as I may go back to some of them at a later date, a throw back to the pre digital days, if I just wanted to watch it once I would just rent it, now I have it, I can watch it (within reasons) when ever.

I just regret paying £3 for and watching 'Skew', that time would be better used watching paint dry, if I were a net reviewer riffing it, that's one thing, but I'm not, I wasted time money and effort on that, but it's going in a box to gather dust instead of hitting the 2nd hand shops, If I keep this copy, I might just save someone else from the shite ness of it all.

The "too many DVDs" problem sounds like me and my model car stash. I could probably open up a hobby shop with what I've squirreled away over the years. Most of what I have are out-of-production and somewhat obscure vehicles--Opel Blitz truck, anyone? Anyway, my problem is...that because they're less seen now, they don't stay on shelves very long. If I want to build, say a Porsche 917 (in McQueen colors), it's either "buy it now, or miss out." That stuff just doesn't stick around usually.

            *cough* Give some to me.

I'm still in the process, several years on, of replacing all the videos I had with DVDs. Taking me a while, cuz DVDs cost money and new ones come out all the time.

Recently I have decided DVDs are about to be as much of a relic as my old VHS movies. I mean I really love movies, but lately I have a hard time wanting to spend money on them. I really don't like to spend more that $5 for the bargain bin at walmart, maybe $10 if I really like the movie. Unless it was epic in theaters im not gonna bother with bluray. My method now is mostly borrow movies OR netflix. Because shit $8 and I can stream whatever I want. Also outside of a few classics I have noticed myself not really caring to rewatch a movie because for the most part I have a photographic mem and can play a majority of movies back in my mind and they just alright when you go to rewatch them

My Instant Queue on Netflix has been cut in half by all the drops. (I know it's the studios, not Netflix, that is at fault.) They used to have ALL of Miyazaki's movies, now, nothing. They used to have (seemingly) every episode of MST3K, now they have, what, 10? Whenever we get a little more cash, I guess I'm going to have to pick the disc plan back up so that I can actually watch "Cowboy Bebop" and some other stuff.

I was sure we had more VHS movies than I found at my brothers in bananna boxes, granted we junked a tonne of off the telly tapes that could have had anything on them.
I think I've got all our (less than a dozzen) betamax movies on DVD now, most we never rebought on VHS (cept for Empire Strikes Back).
Driver was the hardest to find, local HMV had a copy for a bit more than I was willing to pay, but I got it, Convoy was easier and cheaper.
We got a few ex rental big box VHS with time codes on them once, they were very easy to replace on DVD, Clue and They Live although I do kinda miss the time code on those two.

Blu Ray section was allways naff, small and over priced, but with digital distribution (legal and otherwise) I don't see the alure of having another disc based version of a movie I already have, VHS yes, you can't watch them on a PC (without extra gubbins) so finding 80's movies is always fun browse in the shops, mainly cos I find movies I wasn't looking for but did indeed want, or remember another title, I just don't get that kinda deal clicking online
Type in movie, search out of stock type in next name etc. I know they have "people who bought this also bought that", but that can be very hit and miss with me.
Shop, go to the letter, look fail, see another movie I forgot I even saw and add it to the list for a later date or buy it then if its cheap.

I can't watch movies on my computer, cuz it's too slow and buffering takes forever. Also, I do want to get off the computer once in a while and chill in front of a movie with my other half occasionally. XD

Obviously this won't work if you can't stream movies online, but we can hook our computers to our TV via an HDMI cable and watch movies that way.

A few years back especially, I was buying DVD's up like crazy; especially TV Seasons. Now, with few exceptions, most are sitting there unwatched and unlikely to be watched now.

I think it's been more than a year now since I bought a disc of any type (BluRay or DVD), and I just haven't had the desire to do it. If I see something I want to watch, I go to the theater to watch it, or see if it's On Demand. Someday I'll probably get a Netflix sub as well, and if all those sources dry up and I really want to see it, I'll look to other sources, checking the Bay, or even going to Jumbo or other rental places. Very few desires have gotten to that extreme yet at least.

Most of the time the TV is just for background noise while I do other things, so the PVR backlog of TV shows is usually enough for my needs.

We run Netflix and Hulu through our Xbox. Totally worth the fees.
