Moving this to Fratching as requested ...

Conspiracy theorist says Obama's bringing aliens and Canadians to take over and rule the U.S.

Do the aliens have a book titled To Serve Man?

Well, shit. Some conspiracy theory nutcase found out my secret. I'm Canadian and totally planning on taking over the US, and teach them about Canadian healthcare and how to be friendly to everybody.

Okay, Pinky. What are we going to do tonight?

Hey, my white jacket with the extra long arms keeps me warm, damnit!

It's not an invasion if it's welcomed.

And there's even proof it's a tinfoil hat theory. If we invaded, no on would believe it until it was too late.

I've seen the aliens! Gigantic green ones! They were on TV two days ago, on a Rose Parade float.

Still can't figure out what the Back to the Future theme had in relation to the float...

Perhaps whoever chose it just liked the sound.

Well, most Americans can use those lessons. Bring Tim Hortons down here and you've got a deal!

Well, I know Timmy's is already in some areas in the US so that hallowed Canadian institution is already starting to creep across the continental US

I know one of the first thing that needs to change is the distribution of wealth - higher taxes for the major corporations, especially those who are not paying their staff a living wage. Here's looking at you, Walmart, McD's, and any other corporate giants that treat their staff like little more than slaves.

Health care would be revamped. Enough of this pay for care bullshit. No more having to not being to even just go to the doctor's for fear of not being able to afford it. Ditto for hospital care. I've lived in four different provinces under four different provincial healthcare programs. Sure, unless you have additional insurance you have to pay full price for prescriptions, but the rest of the shite is free - especially at the basic level. You want something not offered at the basic level, that is when you pay for it. I had emergency surgery from a specialist on my wrist for free - something that would have cost me a fortune in the US...or I would have just let it heal all fucked up for fear of never being able to pay the bill. Healthcare is fucked up in the US, and even though I deal with American healthcare via my job I am still blown away at how much it can cost, how much of a rip off too many medical administrators and providers are because the system is entirely too privatized and profit-driven.

And being friendly isn't too hard...but I think part of the problem is the people in the charge of the country. Get rid of the corrupt assholes trying to tear the US apart (and take Stephen Harper with them, please!) because they are the root of the problem. Them and the uber-rich who buy them off with campaign 'donations' to get who they want in power - namely, those who will let them make even more money over the broken backs of the majority. Get rid of the war-mongers, the tea-partiers, and crack-pots and I think people will have any easier time of being happy.

But what do I know? I'm just a crazy Canadian that wants my American friends to have the same things I do! Pass the Tim's large double-double along with the free healthcare...

I'm not entirely sure. I swear that they do something to the coffee to make it so damn addictive...not that caffeine isn't addictive enough all by itself. The donuts? Well, I think it mostly depends on what your preference is. They make the best honey crullers I've had anywhere outside of a professional bakery, and I'm a huge fan of their tomato asiago cheese bagels smeared with herb and garlic cream cheese...

The most common coffee source consumed in the US is Starbucks. They are notorious for burning the beans (claiming it's a "super dark roast") and the result is a very bitter tasting coffee. Because of the advertising they claim that they use gourmet coffee beans (debatable as no one really knows the source) and the "superior roasting method" (aka we take them to near charcoal) people are misled into thinking it's the way gourmet coffee is supposed to be and eat it up. Or drink it up as the case may be. To add, Starbucks doesn't really promote their coffee, they promote the brand. You'll notice that in there advertisements one thing is never shown. People actually drinking their coffee. They promote the trendy aspect of holding the advertising, oops, cup. Not actually enjoying the coffee.

Timmies on the other hand doesn't do the "overpriced but inferior" approach. The beans are not cream of the crop but they are a good and reliable source. There's no claim of "super dark roast" like Starbucks so they don't burn the beans which results in almost no bitterness. And unlike Starbucks they don't promote the coffee as being an image thing they promote the coffee itself.

Starbucks is centered on selling the cup with the coffee as an excuse, Timmies sells the coffee and lets that be their brand name.
