I swear this going to turn into the "live how I tell you to live or I'll fucking tax you to death" state.

1) 18% "fat tax" - the nickname for the tax he wants to impose on us.
All drinks - except for water, milk, diet sodas, and juice drinks w/70%+ juie are excempt. All others will carry an 18% tax, supposedly to offset the health care costs you'll incur from being unhealthy.

2) Ipod Tax - yeah 4% tax on anything you pay to download... be it Itunes or Porn, the state was a cut of it.

Yeah, I fail to see how some of these so-called taxes are really helping anything. NY state already has a bottle deposit on carbonated beverages. They want to expand that to include bottled water/juices/etc, which is fine and good, except for the reason WHY they want to add it. See the whole point of having bottle deposits is to encourage recycling, correct? So why are environmental programs being CUT and the new proposed tax, err deposit, going to state coffers and NOT towards environmental projects? That one tees me off. And the fat tax, of course. I find that one downright insulting.

Slight difference, though. With fruit juices, most of their sugar (depending on the brand and its content, of course) is naturally-occurring, which has been shown to be "healthier" than the processed sugar that gets dumped into soda (namely, the HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) that's in damn near everything nowadays).

I do grant that if you're trying to watch your sugar intake it's still important to keep an eye on the juices though. (Grape juice by far has the most sugar out of any juice I've seen)

Not only is there a difference between refined and non-refined sugar, but let's not forget that there is no nutritional value whatsoever in Coke, other than the caloric content. Fruit juice contains hundreds of vitamins and minerals essential to good health.

You can't avoid taking in calories from sugar (and nor should you), but you need to be careful that the sugar you are consuming is at least delivering nutritional value.

However, if you're going to do fruit juice, it's better frankly to drink water and eat the fruit. Not only are you getting the vitamins and minerals but also the fiber that you're skipping out on by drinking the juice.

How is the download tax supposed to be enforced? Tacked onto your internet bill (if I take it to mean that all downloads are to be taxed, not just those on portable devices)? That seems like a nightmare waiting to happen.

I suspect that out-of-staters would likely get the fun taxes as well. As if NYC wasn't notorious enough for the high tax rate.

i don't know. I suspect they might try to track your credit card number for the purchases if they want to enforce it.

and yes... technically sex is on the list too - they want to tax porn downloads too after all!
