The country has supposedly been "going down the tubes" in someone's opinion since 1796.

actually, Gravekeeper, I think the first complaints about the country going down the tubes were from July 5th, 1776. ( if you don't get the joke, think about what happened the day before)

Touche. I was going by the first contested election.

You don't need to explain the joke though. We do study American history in school up here~ >.>

Hmm, no, actually "I know you are but what am I?" is from Peewee Herman's playbook is I remember right.

Yeah it really annoys me whenever someone claims that "the world/country/things are getting so much worse all the time" or "[insert bad things/events] were never a problem 'back in my day' ". That's only because there's much more media now, and frankly, I consider that to be the grown up version of believing in Santa Claus. I guess "out of sight out of mind"? Next time someone says that to you, challenge them by simply asking this...what time period would you rather live in? It's interesting, but on the very rare occasions I actually get to say this, Obama hit the nail square on the head when he said the present is the best time to live in.

Anyway back to our regularly scheduled program, Hilary and the DNC will get their turn at the plate (yet another cliche sorry, I should really avoid those like the plague)...but the first debate is not until September 26, which is still a couple of months after "DNC week". So after this week, both Trump and Hilary will have made their first "real" speech of the general election (if you get what I mean), and we all know whatever small bump in the polls each get from those will be very temporary. So by about August 15 or so that DNC/RNC bump will have cooled off and we'll find out where things really stand.

Still, I don't think the basic Electoral College map will really change. No Republican has ever won the White House without Ohio and this will be no exception. If Trump doesn't get Ohio as well as either Florida or Pennsylvania, then say hello to our country's first female President (though will be ideologically the opposite of the UK's now second female Prime Minister and most definitely their first). Play around with the 270towin.com map if you don't believe me. Clearly Trump will the underdog in this election...gee I bet he hasn't been called that too often!

"No Republican has ever won without Ohio" is only true until one does it. There do exist possible winning combinations for them without that state.

Well of course there are other possible combinations but they're not very probable ones.
