Anybody wanna put odds on this actually happening, and Donald Trump not getting the requisite 270?

    http://nypost.com/2016/12/15/celebri...against-trump/

So let me get this straight: The electors will earn the "respect" of people they may or may not want the respect of, if they just vote the way the celebrities want them to vote (i.e. not for Trump)? Am I understanding that right?

Celebrities are teaming up to beg Republicans in the Electoral College to vote against President-elect Donald Trump, pledging their “respect” for potential “heroes.”
Emphasis mine. It's likely that many of the current group of individuals in the video don't really respect most Republicans anyway, and likely haven't for a long time. Why would this make any difference?

I get the feeling this is a lot like the "I'm moving to Canada if Trump wins" thing. Empty words.

There's more people than celebrities calling on the electors to not vote for Trump. Though it figures it only registers when celebrities say something.

I mean, this is literally the exact situation the electoral college was designed to prevent. So if it fails here there's really no point left in having it.

No, there's no chance that Trump won't get the necessary votes. Any hopes to the opposite are simply the last, desperate dreams of people who are wistful for what could have been.

Looking at Trump's cabinet, I'm just praying that when he rides off into the sunset (and moves to another country) in four years, there's a foundation of a government left to be built on by whatever unlucky person is elected to clean up the mess he'll leave behind.

I'm kinda hoping that Congress keeps him in check. He may have a "friendly" (i.e. Republican) Congress, but I don't think they'll let him run roughshod. At least I hope not. I don't think Congress will let him do anything he wants.

There's an entire petition with a few million signatures, too. That's not going to matter, either. If harassing emails and death threats to the electors haven't mattered, why would a petition and celebrity pleading?

Maybe. But since when has the words of the Founders in the Federalist Papers meant anything to most people, aside from now? Think "enumerated powers".

The electoral College is also designed to keep four or five large cities from being the only ones that matter (i.e. have a say).

As much as people think we may be, we're not a "direct democracy". We're a Constitutional Republic (some say a Representative Republic).

Well, it looks like the issue with "faithless Electors" is on the Clinton Side. Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, and Washington Electors also tried, or didn't vote for Clinton.

It's over, but I'd say this promised "respect" is worth about as much as exposure for artists.
