Sarah Palin Stepping Down

I know this story is a bit dated, but I did a search and couldn't find any threads about it, so I thought I would start one just to see what everyone thinks. (If there is already a thread about this, it didn't come up in a search on "Sarah Palin.")

Here she is taking a tour of Alaska. She says it's "thanks, but not goodbye." She indicates that she has other plans, but she isn't being specific about what those are. Some people are speculating that she is planning on going into conservative talk radio. Palin has, however, insisted that she isn't planning a 2012 run for president.

I agree. She was a shockingly bad politician and/or puppet to McCain (or the whole Republican party). I'm glad she's getting out of politics so that her misogynistic (is it still misogynistic if a woman does it?) views on women's issues are not made into law.

If she did decide to run in 2012, her opponent (most likely Obama) could probably use the fact that she stepped down with 18 months left in her term against her.

I never met anyone that would vote for Hilary Clinton. That didn't mean that no one liked her.

Sarah Palin is a fucking idiot and a disgrace to women. I'm so glad hardly anyone took her seriously.

Well, yes, and all the neo-cons will vote for her because she talks to baby Jesus and wants to put women's rights back into the toilet. Pro-life, pro-war, pro-guns, pro-Christianity. All in a pretty, empty, shell of a woman. A Christian neo-cons wet dream.

There actually is a segment of people who like her. Some of them are just die-hard Republicans who love anyone with an R after their name. But she is also somewhat popular among social conservatives, mainly because of her pro-life stance and devoutly religious demeanor.

Refreshing because she's a female candidate who "acts like a woman" (aka isn't Hillary) and is a mother and isn't one of those dry old men who are usually running.

Sigh. That's a tragic mentality. None of those things make her any better of a politician, and the fact that people will support a candidate for these reasons still makes me sad.
