This is re: corrupt states, from a discussion we started in this thread over on customers suck: http://www.customerssuck.com/board/s...ad.php?t=53107. I moved it over here because it was getting way off topic for the thread and into political areas.
Anyways, lemme see if I can find a site or two relatively recent/reputable...at least a news network and not a blog. I know the FBI made about 40 arrests made in July...here we go: http://www.abc.net.au/lateline/conte...8/s2636117.htm
People think that bribery doesn't happen anymore. It does--people are just careful about it. Or are so bitter that they can't get bribes anymore that they just refuse to let any progress happen or anything get approved. And most town board positions around here are appointements and not elected positions.
For example, just last week my husband came home from work and said "Okay, that school must've bribed the town planning board to let them build their synagogue. Two days ago they were 'not getting' our paperwork, and today they not only gave us approval out of nowhere, they told us we didn't have to do some of the expensive unnecessary stuff they were forcing us to add to get approval!"
