  • Not Liking Obama = Racist?

Why am I considered racist just because I don't like Obama? On the View the other day they were talking about how the 30% who don't approve of the President are showing they're racist. The people who are upset some schools didn't show Obama's speech are spouting "The school is racist" or "It's because he's black, isn't it?".

I don't like Obama because I don't like the direction he is taking America. I didn't like Bush either because of the same thing. I thought Obama winning was supposed to get rid of racism...him winning has just made racism worse. Either way - McCain or Obama - racism was going to be a huge problem for President #44.

I'm getting tired of when someone talks about disliking the President's action, someone immediately turns around and says "You're a racist, aren't you?"

Isn't The View that show where one of the hosts didn't know that the earth was round?

Idiots say idiotic things. The majority do not believe that people who don't like Obama are racist. They understand that there are many reasons why someone wouldn't like him -- like they're Republican, for example. I wouldn't get your back up about it.

I thought Obama winning was supposed to get rid of racism...
    Seriously, now... really?

      Just tell them you are.

I'm not saying you are, I'm just telling to you SAY you are.

Because nothing derails people like this faster than the discovery that you couldn't care less about being branded a racist.

I think the people you are describing are probably few and far between. Mainly because if the country were largely racist, I dont' think Obama would have won. There are not even thirteen percent blacks in this country. I have to figure he was not voted in by blacks. He was voted in by the white majority, with help from everyone else.

But there are folks out there still who will give up that race card when you pry it from their cold, dead fingers.

A person is not racist just because he or she doesn't like a president who happens to be of a different race.

However, it's always seemed to me that Obama's detractors are making a bigger deal out of his race than his supporters are (overall, that is). And Boozy is right. It's best to not take The View seriously.

I think people were more impressed with the fact that a black man could become president and they didn't expect that to happen for a long time. Then they tried to tell me it's because we're moving beyond racism. But if we're moving beyond racism, why are we making such a big deal out of the fact that President Obama is black? I'd say it's just another man getting elected to be President.

I don't like the huge deficits that President Obama is racking up, and people seem to ignore me when I say I didn't like it when President Bush did it either. They too also call me a racist and say it must be OK when Bush did it because he was white.

We need to look at racism in the broadest term to get beyond it. Making a huge deal out of a black man becoming president doesn't do much to get beyond racism. We're making a big deal out of color when we do that.

I think it is easier for some people to accept that someone is racist rather than that someone may see a legitimate flaw in someone you admire.

I'm with you on this. Bill Cosby in an interview told the interviewer that the only way to get past racism was if he didn't refer to the interviewer as a white man and he didn't refer to him (Bill) as a black man. Some of the supporters going, "Woo! Black man in the white house!" are just as guilty as the genuine racists.

His skin colour doesn't matter. Neither side should bring it up.

I would say racism is a factor, yes. But not an overwhelming majority of one. Still I just don't understand the sheer amount of crazy anger some people have towards this president without considering racism as a factor.

Funniest part is though Obama is just as white as he is black, seeing as his mom was white. But people ( on both sides ) don't give a rat's ass because his skin is dark. >.>

Gravekeeper's right, he's not any more black than he is white, and very few people seem to remember that.

And he's not even the first president of mixed race we had, either. Abe Lincoln, who was a Melungeon, was. Melungeons are of mixed race, and many of them can pass for white (or, in the case of my husband "sort of white-ish if youi squint"). But I guess back then, nobody really had that figured out, and ever since then, nobody's ever really considered it.

Lies! Lincoln was a bleach white Christian warrior with a bald eagle shaped birthmark on his ass that invented NASCAR with his bare hands.

Wait, I thought that was Jesus?

No no, Jesus inspired Lincoln by appearing in a carburretor.

                          OOOoooooooooooooooooh. Right. My bad.

*chuckle* "Wait, does that mean Bethany is part black?"

I tried saying that back in November and I was told that I didn't understand what was happening and that it was amazing that a black man won and that racism was ending. I questioned that answer with what you just said and was called a sore loser.

I will be so happy if, in 2012, we see Obama become a one term President by a Mondale-esque margin of victory.

I can only hope. I'm worried about the $10 trillion dollars he's planning on spending. Tim Pawlenty is rumored to be running for president. I like him as governor, may have to vote for him if he makes a run for the White House.
