  • Should President Bush Have Been Impeached?

As I'm sure many of you know, there were many people who urged Congress to impeach Bush back when he was still president.

I know that the man is out of office now, and it may not be worth debating anymore, but do you think that impeaching Bush would have been the right thing to do? Would it have even been a good thing? Did Congress make a mistake by not doing so?

If Bush had been impeached, then Cheney would've taken over, and I shudder to think what state this country would be in today if that had happened.

No. If we had impeached Bush, we would've needed to pretty much impeach all of congress along with him. Let Obama and congress correct the mistakes of the previous administration and congress, and then let's as a country make sure we don't vote that into office ever again.

Impeach on what grounds? I suspect he's stained no dresses, so do we havge a similarly impressive reason?

I wouldn't trust congress to stick its head out the window and tell me the weather. ><

I think he should have been impeached ( or at least Cheney rooted out ), but its too far beyond the fact now. I would still like to see some action taken against former officials from his administration over all this crap though.

Letting them all just get away with it is aggravating to be honest.

The current administration and Congress will not be able to correct the last's problems. They'll make them worse.

I'm putting faith in a nearly completely Democratic Congress and President Obama. Scratch that, I'm relying on this current administration and congress to correct past mistakes and I really hope they do. So far, Obama has been backing down on a lot of issues I wish he'd stick with. We'll see how this plays out.

Starting an illegal war should have been enough to impeach.

looking back on it, no he shouldn't have been, and as some people have said some of his staff should have been kicked to the curb, but truthfully he was thrust into being the "neo-conservative" poster boy.

Although if I had my druthers, I'd say we should have stripped everything from that family way back when the Whitehouse Coup was being hatched and then discovered, so unless 41 lifted himself up, well we wouldn't have had those 8 years of "neo-conservative" policy.

                    Well...

CONGRESS! Not the president can declare war. Congress declared this war. President Clinton committed perjury. Lying is not illegal, perjury which is lying under oath is illegal.

Yeah but than we get into the whole misleading or false intel used to lead congress in to begin with. Oh noez, Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Its a huge mess, and I honestly wish it would have been cleared out immediately rather than allowed to taper off like a broccoli fart like this.

Irrelevant. Neither of those men were commander-in-chief, neither of them presided over this debacle.

Even if you can somehow manage to convince yourself that Bush acted in good faith, that people under him were negligible, it was still his responsibility to call them to account.

Sadly I know Bush and his co-conspirators are not likely to be prosecuted. Too many Democrats would go down with them. I'd like nothing better if everyone responsible for this fiasco were made to answer for their actions.

                            Clinton bombed Iraq.

So, Clinton was impeached for perjury. Should we also ask if he should be impeached for war crimes?

While I am no fan of Bush, I don't think he should have been impeached. Gullibility is not a crime, even if it should be. I honestly think he believed what he was told, and then got stuck in a catch 22. Removing troops would have huge negative impact (regardless of what other nations claim), and keeping them in even worse negative impact. So he did something smart (believe it or not) he left it to the next President. Since either way he was going to get flack for it.

Was it the right move, no. Did it accomplish anything? Absolutely not. Yes he was commander and cheif, but I believe he was aware that any move was a wrong move. Making no decision is a decision, so he decided to not decide.
