With the passing of the Public Option through the House of Representatives, the politicians in this country are going to be sticking the American young people with the largest bill for any government run program since the days of the Great Depression and all of the public works projects.
Under this new bill, the Americans aged 25-36 will pay the largest premium for healthcare and will be expected to foot the bill for the remainder of the system

The problem with this is multi-pronged:
1. People in this age bracket are just either finishing graduate school or are in lower paying entry level jobs. Many of these people have significant debts and were counting on their income to help reduce some of that debt. Taking a percentage of that away, yet providing them with no significant benefit is going to hurt the ability of these young people to spend and stimulate the economy.
2. There are signficantly more people in the baby boomer generation (who are not being mandated to contribute as much) and their healthcare will not be able to be sustained by the members of Generation Y.
3. It is mandatory for employers to provide some sort of healthcare for all of their employees (if their company is above a certain size and the employee contributes to their healthcare). With the public option, less people will feel the need to work in order to maintain insurance coverage. This will put additional pressure on the workers already paying into the plan.
4. The public health option will drastically reduce the quality of care because hospitals and clinics will be overrun by individuals who now are able to seek healthcare for the first time.
On a personal note, the government has consistently punished people who wish to better themselves and become successful through their own sacrifices and hard work. Any time a Democrat controls the White House or Congress (or both), hard working American people are flogged within an inch of their lives asking for more and more money to support pet projects and pork barrel spending. These programs are reducing the incentives of the American people to go and better themselves and is leading to the slow death of the American work ethic. For example, I chose to enroll in graduate school and am financing the education myself through loans and some savings. I went to apply for financial aid and was rejected saying that I am still a dependent on my parents simply because I spend more than 60 days at their residence. In addition, I was given $85 in state tuition assistance from the TAP funds. This barely buys a textbook let alone makes a dent in my tuition.
I am tired of the government taking and taking and taking without giving anything in return. We need to stand up and fight for our rights to keep our money.
