    Orly Taitz (yes, apparently that is her real name) is a nutjob "birther". For those of you unfamiliar with the term, a birther is someone who thinks Obama is not a legal resident of the US, and as such, cannot be the president. These people have rejected a copy of a birth certificate from the state house in Hawaii that confirms Obama was born there, yet are hard set in accepting an obvious faked BC from South Africa saying that Obama was born there. This matter has effectively died down substantially to the point that Taitz is the only one still talking about it, as other issues popped up.

    What makes her even further into nutjob territory, is that she has publicy declared Obama to be the spawn of Satan, and on the Colbert Report, publicy declared that Obama was "worse than Stalin and Hitler combined" with absolutely no reason for why.

    And now she apparently wants to run for office in California for the explicit purpose in suing Obama to get the records (ones she has already rejected as faked by the way).

    I don't know what to say about this. I'm torn between feeling absolute pity for the people of California, and wanting to laugh myself to the point where I'm locked up in an asylum.

    Not that this needs any help, but I'd like to remind the people of California that your money reserves are effectively gone, and she has no intentions other than suing Obama, using whatever resources she can if she wins.

    Trust me, I don't think she'll make it very far. California may be known as the Granola State (as my stepfather called it), but by and large, it's not that stupid. (I hope)

        The birther movement isn't a hyper racist group. It actually is a spinoff of the neo-con group at large who hate Obama more for the fact that he's a democrat than because he's black. This group is just obsessed with the concept that they think they have a means to get rid of him.

            Nyoibo I do believe you MUST be born on American soil to become the POTUS. If you are not born in one of the actual states, it must be on American territory (military zone/base etc).

              Having done some research it seems that before anyone could argue that they need to actually define "Natural born citizen"

              BTW overseas military bases don't count

A child born on the premises of such a facility is not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States and does not acquire U.S. citizenship by reason of birth."

                Then shouldn't of the Democrats gone against McCain since he was born in the Panama Canal Zone?

                  A natural Born Citizen is per the 14th amendment "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." Which has been defined in law per Title 8 of the U.S.Code per Section 1401 as “Citizens of the United States at Birth” which include,

                  Anyone born inside the United States *
                  Any Indian or Eskimo born in the United States, provided being a citizen of the U.S. does not impair the person's status as a citizen of the tribe
                  Any one born outside the United States, both of whose parents are citizens of the U.S., as long as one parent has lived in the U.S.
                  Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year and the other parent is a U.S. national
                  Any one born in a U.S. possession, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year
                  Any one found in the U.S. under the age of five, whose parentage cannot be determined, as long as proof of non-citizenship is not provided by age 21
                  Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is an alien and as long as the other parent is a citizen of the U.S. who lived in the U.S. for at least five years (with military and diplomatic service included in this time)
                  A final, historical condition: a person born before 5/24/1934 of an alien father and a U.S. citizen mother who has lived in the U.S.

                  Further Laws have been written to include/handle US Territories, Puerto Rico (8 USC 1402), Alaska (8 USC1404), Hawaii (8USC 1405 - which later became a state) the Virgin Islands, Guam and of course concerning McCain The Panama Canal Zone and the Nation of Panama (8 USC 1403). In the case of Panama the law says that anyone born in the Canal Zone or in Panama itself, on or after February 26, 1904, to a mother and/or father who is a United States citizen, was "declared" to be a United States citizen. It does not state if they are confirmed the status of “Natural born” citizen.

                  McCain is a natural-born citizen under 8 USC 1401(c): "a person born outside of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents both of whom are citizens of the United States and one of whom has had a residence in the United States or one of its outlying possessions, prior to the birth of such person." In April 2008 the U.S. Senate approved a non-binding resolution recognizing McCain's status as a natural born citizen.

                  So yes one could make as convincing a case that McCain is in fact ineligible for the office of US Presidency. However right now considering that he lost the matter is pretty much moat. In the case of Obama, he’s proven that he’s a natural born citizen. He has gone to court multiple times at this point and proved that he’s a NBC. Personally I think he has his birth certificate sealed is probably due to it registering his religion as a Muslim - his family on the fathers side was Muslim it would make sense that it would state the family religion was Islam. Given the political climate in US I could very much see him loosing due to that. Heck look at what happens when your not the write type of Christian - can anyone say Mike Huckabee?

                  Personally I’m tired of hearing from the Birthers movement. I’ve got a family member who’s into it. They have blatantly stated they just want him out of office and are looking for a way/excuse to legally do it. I’m fine with them not wanting him in office - I don’t like his policies ether- but at this point one is barking up the wrong tree if they think there is any chance of getting ride of him via NBC. Wither or not they like it the courts have stated he’s one, and their going to have to live with it.

                    Lordlundar has, in essence, my belief as well. Similar to the Swift Boat Veterans campain, it WAS an attempt at undermining his chance at winning. To the politicians involved, I agree that it was more than likely political and not racial. This is similar to what's happening in Congress now; the Republican as a general whole are opposiong and attempting to stymie anything and everything put forward by the Democrats, but they're not really trying to do their own thing - they're only trying to stop the other side.

                    THIS birther, however, might very well be just plain crazy.

                    As to Obama's policies, I know many people and many politicians are opposed, but I have only heard people (the elected politicians and the pundits, mainly) say what they DON'T think Obama should do for this or that proble. When asked what SHOULD be done, I only hear generalized blanket statements; I hear health insurance reform commentary on "market-based reform" but absolutely no definition as to what, *exactly*, that is.
