  • Pro-life Tim Tebow Super Bowl ad

As most of you are aware, Super Bowl XLIV tomorrow will air a pro-life ad (from the group Focus on the Family) featuring the story of how Tim Tebow's mother was advised by doctors that she should abort her unborn child because the child might be born, eh, with less than perfect health. Well, she chose to have the child, who was her fifth and named him Tim Tebow. Yes, the very same Tim Tebow who became the first sophomore Heisman Trophy winner and two time national champion for the Florida Gators.

Now, here is my beef; why is Big Abortion (Planned Parenthood, NOW, NARAL, etc) so adamit about censoring the ad, when neither they nor anyone else has even SEEN it??? Isn't it unfair to prejudge an ad like that before they even see any of it? This reminds me of a column written by now-retired columnist Kathleen Parker calling for then-VP candidate Sarah Palin to step down as the R's VP candidate A FEW DAYS BEFORE her debate with Joe Biden!! IOW, she was already calling for her to step down before she even had a real chance to "show her stuff" so to speak.

My point is, if Big Abortion wants to still raise a big hoopla about the Tim Tebow ad AFTER seeing it; fine. Or better still, run their own pro-choice rebuttal commercial during the Super Bowl, as they've already posted on YouTube (link is below). But it is grossly unfair to call for it to be pulled without even seeing the ad. I guess Big Abortion is only about "choice" when the choice is to abort. And look at the uproar they put up when a group dares to put up an ad celebrating a woman's choice NOT to abort. Go figure.

EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BIOTItUwvk (the ad itself; you mean Big Abortion raised a big stink over THIS? Give me a break...)

You know, this kind of shit shouldn't even be on during the Super Bowl. Sporting events like this should be free of politics and religion.

      THIS.

I want to watch the Saints win their first Super Bowl ever without the political and religious ads that drive me up the wall trying to watch my other shows. Although honestly, I'd like to watch the big game without any ads at all.

        I disliked Tebow before this.

Now I hope Tebow turns out to be worse than Leaf. Stick to football. Anti-abortion ads have no place in the football world.

Because the reverse is also true. If anti-abortion groups heard there was a pro abortion ad being played, they would at the very least demand the ad be pulled. And these are people who are a fair more militant about their goals.

First of all, politics doesn't have a place in football, IMO.

Second of all, Focus on the Family is one of the absolute worse fundamentalist organizations out there. They're the ones who run those lovely summer camps where they terrorize cure gay and lesbian teenagers. A friend of mine got sent to one of their camps and needed therapy for years to undo the damage.

"Big Abortion"? You make it sound as if these groups are big businesses that seek to profit from abortions, instead of activist groups (NOW and NARAL) that fight for women's rights and a health care organization (Planned Parenthood) that provides needed services of ALL kinds, including STD and HIV testing, birth control, and, most of all, information.

NOW, NARAL, and other women's rights groups know how delicate a woman's right to health care is right now, as so many groups would gladly take away our right to options - no morning after pill, no Plan B, no birth control. Rape? Incest? Dangerous pregnancy? Too damn bad, you'll just have to put your own life at risk because that's the way Jesus wants it. Just stay knocked up, barefoot, and in the kitchen, and bring me my damn sammich!

If it weren't for the work of these "Big Abortion" groups like NOW and NARAL in the 70's and 80's, women would be paid much much less than men for equal work (instead of just a little less, like now), women wouldn't have equal access to credit, we'd be unable to do anything about sexual harassment in the workplace, and the list goes on and ON.

Well, the ads are what make a shitty Super Bowl more entertaining. But, there should be a part of one day a year where there isn't any kind of political or religious advertising. The government can't say that, definitely (and I'm ok with that)...it would be up to the particular networks, and all they see are dollar signs and rating points. So, it won't happen at all. Maybe if the NFL had some sense in their heads, they'd say "No politics or religious ads during our Championship Game".

What gets me about all of this is that there was a same-sex marriage ad that got pulled from the Super Bowl commercial line-up while this Tim Tebow commercial stays on.

Please tell me again about how the media is "left wing biased?"

Because she didn't just pop into existence Palin was Governer of Alaska and anyone could find out what she was like and her policies without need of debate. Two entirely different things.

Tebow has every right to advocate against something that could have murdered him before he was even born or had a chance to play football

Since you are playing the murder card, I'm pulling the he wouldn't have been alive so it wasn't murder.

Well how about we pose a question to everybody, would you rather not be murdered by abortion or not be murdered by being alive? I think Time Tebow would prefer the being alive option.

So your advocating reincarnation. That the soul of the person will be aware they were "murdered" and carry that with them into their next life thus being affected by it in a real way.

If reincarnation weren't made up then maybe there would be an argument for abortion, but in real life what happens is a baby is killed and never gets a chance to ever live. Tim Tebow and all of his achievements could have never existed if his mother didn't make the right choice. Would your life be better if your best friend or lover didn't live because they had a mom to lazy to raise a child?

What if Tim's parents were killed when he was a child and it caused him to choose a life of crime.

What if Tim moved to New York City as a young child and became a dancer on Broadway?

What if....infinite freaking possibilities. We make choices we live with the consequences.
