  • way to go Minn.

So, it appears that Minn. is considering legalizing gay marriage.

I know that there is no way in hell it will ever get passed... not in this Christian nation... but it warms the heart that it is even being discussed.

Probably not... but then, it *has* been passed in other states; why not Minnesota?

HYHYBT, because I understand the political reality that in this nation, if you want to get reelected you do it by doing whatever you can to bash gays that is legal under the constitution.

...except in Vermont and New Hampshire. I don't know much about Minnesota, but at least it has lattitude in common with them

And Iowa. Don't forget Iowa. That was a bit of a major surprise, and if one MidWest State can pull it off, nothing says another can't.

I mean yeah, there's no specific law on the books, and some of their Republicans are trying to block it, but it is currently legal in Iowa, at least based on what I've read.

Damn. Why haven't I heard of this? I try to keep up with news in my home state, but I hadn't heard that one.

This is a tiny flicker of hope for some sort of improvement. Not only does Minnesota ban same-sex marriage, the state also has no civil unions, no domestic partner registry, nothing.

I didn't forget Iowa, but that was the court's doing. In Minnesota, it's the legislature that's at least looking at the idea, so I limited my examples to states where gay marriage was passed by the legislature (and not then voted out, as in Maine)

Yeah, I wasn't sure about Iowa when I posted it, hence the editing.
