Wow! Legislation that makes sense!!

The Florida state legislature is going to vote to allow counties to raise the surcharge on people who violate animal ordiances from $5 to $15 and the extra money will go towards animal shelters, spay / neuter clinics, etc.

Who are these people and I'm glad they did away with our regular state politicans!!

For now. Seriously. The government likes to find surpluses anywhere to help other areas that are in danger of going in the red.

Hey, if one section is hurting for money and another equally important section has some to spare, why not move some around? At least this way the money channels through animal services first so they don't have to ask for it to be given to them in the first place.

At least in theory that is exactly what will happen seeing as the investigation and retrieval of said funds is handled by the same program that is receiving them, they'll have it first. OF course it's possible that someone will reduce their pattern budget, but we'll just have to see.

I like the black hole theory in that a lot of times just throwing money at programs that are losing money never really fixes the problem. And then when the money that wasn't hurting needs a little extra in the way of $$, the government either raises taxes or starts to go into the red. But they never look at fixing the problem.

I'd think you'd find that they often do, but past passing mentions no one talks about how the transit authority fixed itself up or the courts ousted a problem judge. All we hear is the crap that goes wrong. The real logical fallacy is assuming that someone or somethings actions are always the same arbitrarily.

They do talk about those things. I'm talking about the government going, "uh-oh, this is losing money. Let's find a surplus somewhere and throw money at the program that's losing money. There, problem deferred."

Just like with this new health-care bill. Part of the reason it's supposed to save $138 billion in the first 10 years is because they're going to cut funding in Medicare. However, every time there has been bills to cut Medicare funding, they've been voted down. That's one of the biggest examples I can think of.

Bush used some of Social Security to fund the 2 wars that we're in. I don't know where Obama is going to get the money to fund the health care bill if Congress does not do as it promised to do and cut Medicare funding.

I don't trust that the money being raised that should be allocated to that shelter will always be allocated to that shelter.
