My experience so far is that Republicans and Democrats share a general air of governmental liberalism in that they want to do stuff. Whether that's a good thing depends on what it is they're doing IMO. The real difference is that Republicans are socially conservative and that's a big problem for me because mixing liberal government with social conservatism =/= freedom.
The best place to find governmental conservatives is in independent parties and moderates of the big two. Sometimes I think it may be better if we just spliced the big two into four, one each for far left/right and one each for moderate left/right.
