  • Piss off.

Phone just went. Gave one of my favourite answers of, "Battersea Dog's Home!" Turned out to be someone who knew my name and she introduced herself as the candidate for a local political party.

Wonderfuckingful. I don't own a TV so they try to get me through the door (already put plenty of leaflets in the recycling - don't really read them) and now on the sodding phone.

"Can I ask who you're going to vote for in the next election if it was tomorrow?"

"None - it only encourages them."

She wheedled at me. Apparently the fact that she would be a complete novice to the political arena would be an incentive for me to vote for her.

    Heh.

She got nowhere. I almost told her she'd interrupted me watching Naked News.

I suppose if she's a novice it means she's not one of those dreaded elitists. Cause you wouldn't want a person who is elite running things. I hate it when people who are more capable then me are in charge. I want those in charge to be either as smart as me or dumber.

My answer: "whoever calls me the least often." I've never been called by the same campaign twice.

My answer is, "the more qualified person, so start proving you're qualified and stop wasting time with pointless phone calls."
That also gets them to stop calling.

My answer would be the devastatingly unoriginal putdown of "Not you. Goodbye!" then the phone down.

I'm seriously apathetic about the next election; last time, I voted for the Independance party cuz all the leading parties were crap. I can see myself doing the exact same thing this time, for the exact same reason. -.-
"Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I used to be and you still are."

Are you apathetic because you think all politicians are crooked and never work for you?

If so then why not, instead of sitting out, work to get someone elected who actually will work for you? There are politicians out there who genuinely care about the people they serve but they will only get elected (or re-elected) with the support of voters. If you just sit it out you'll be stuck with the same crooked politicians again and again.

Or her being a novice means she doesn't know how to lie, steal, and abuse her power.

Lace didn't "sit it out" how is voting for the independance party-actually casting a vote "sitting it out"

I voted for Nader in the last US election(as did my husband for the same reasons i did) because I couldn't stomach voting for McCain or Obama-just because someone doesn't vote for a "major party" does not mean they're "throwing their vote away"-in the US unless a party gets 10% of the popular vote they don't get any federal campaign money-I voted to try and get the independent party in the US some of the money that the dems/repubs have always had access to-the US is NOT by any means a two party system-but due to election laws so far only two parties get the money to campaign.

The ability to lie, cheat and steal does not come from the office they're running for. Those offices just seem to attract liars, cheaters and thieves. And since this person was running for one of those offices, well, the odds are against her honesty.

Just had another one - knocking on the door this time. I told him the same. I explained the conversation yesterday and said it seemed that inexperience was apparently a selling point. He tried to point out that all the MP hopefuls in the region were pretty much forst-timers, but I don't think his heart was in it.

I suspect they've taken this tack as most of the parties have had members caught with their snouts firmly in the trough recently.

Er, I never said I'd sit out, just that I don't plan to vote for any of the leading parties. The Green Party's looking pretty good from where I'm standing; tho if the Monster Raving Loony Party was still around, they'd get my vote.

I always vote. Women fought long and hard to give me that right.

I was wrong to say you were sitting out, I misread your post, I was more asking why you felt so apathetic about the political scene.

It's mainly cuz of the expenses thing, and cuz I just don't have faith in either of the other leading parties to fix what Labour did. The Tories are threatening to remove tax credits, which will make me out of pocket and the Liberals just seem to be all over the place. That's what's making me feel apathetic.

Sounds a bit like me, a Republican would be much better for me financially but would remove what few civil rights I have, a Democrat would fight for my civil rights but fuck me over financially... so often times I just stay out of it because I don't want to have to decided how I'm going to get fucked over.

I'd be pretty surprised if that were the case. Are you very wealthy?
