You know, Bill Clinton had a lot of problems during his presidency, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't among them

I'm one of those idiots who thinks that, had he *not* passed DOMA, not only would he have lost the election but we'd have swiftly gotten the Federal Marriage [Prevention] Amendment or equivalent enacted and be further behind than we are now. It still needs to go, of course. But a small step backwards is better than a large one.

Clinton's problems weren't just with his equal rights stances...
And as much of a realist that I am, I'm starting to agree with Bill Maher, it's time someone drag Republicans and Christians into the next century, which in their case is the 19th.

Why the same rights as marriage are so important.

That's my big problem with all this state-by-state passing of gay marriage. The only way it will be truly equal is when it is recognized by all states and the federal government. I mean, it's good to see states slowly chipping away at it, but it needs to be recognized on the same level that straight marriage is. I was kinda pissed when New Jersey voted it down recently.

Well, Minnesota doesn't even recognize civil unions. That's how backwards we are. I should just move back to Iowa. Who would have thought Iowa would be progressive?

No, backwards is Utah which has shown its Christlike love towards homosexuals by amending their constitution to outlaw same sex marriage, civil unions, or any other legal contract that resembles the above.
Theoretically, if I understand the law correctly, if I set up a combination of legal contracts on my own between my boyfriend and I that mirror what marriage does, then we are in violation of state law. A lot of companies hesitate to offer domestic partner benefits because of that amendment. (as a side note, this is why I use UPS for shipping, because they told the state of Utah that they could fuck off, UPS provides these benefits to the employees in Atlanta and they will damned well offer them to their employees in Utah and the government can just try to stop them). Luckily, more and more liberal (read into that less Mormon) municipalities are telling the Mormon legislature to shove their Bibles up their asses and fuck off. The Cult has lost control of Salt Lake City and as a response Salt Lake City and County offer domestic partner benefits and Salt Lake City has passed anti discrimination ordinances. In other areas where the Cult is weakened anti-discrimination ordinances are being written up and debated as we speak (so far Park City, West Valley City, Ogden, and Taylorsville have started the process).
As a decent human being, I would say that I feel bad for the Mormons who are watching their world collapse around them.
As someone who knows history and what they've done to us... I am enjoying every last second of their panic and terror and pain.

                    Awesome. Maybe there's hope yet.

Maybe I'm a hopeless optimist, but maybe that terror and pain will cause them to re-think their beliefs, their world-view, and they'll come out of it better people.

What pissed me off about the moromons I have known is the patronizing attitude they have towards me like I am a child who just doesn't know any better.

It isn't that I have thought through everything and come to a different life conclusion than them it's that I am just not thinking it through.
