    Huh?

    I was quoting the story.
"Officials" was the word used in reference to those speaking for the airline.

    Hell yes.
I might as well get some fun out of it.

Either way, there better be dinner involved.

    Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

Pardon me, but I see one word in quotes and it doesn't scream "Citation," to me. I realize you might call this hypocritical, but the upper-case and comma make it a clear spoken word, and not a quote. I read it and felt it was simply you using air-quotes. Hence, condescension.

Well, call me crazy then for rather walking through a device.

Just googled the words "Airport scanner abuse." Apparently our government has been lying to us. Big surprise...

First in the list is "UK Scanner abuse" so unless you're a Brit...

I don't doubt that the government has been lying to us, but the internet isn't exactly the best source for the truth when it comes to government conspiracies... after all, googling WTC will come up with pages of results about how GWB planned and executed the attacks

Once again, you've jumped to a conclusion and assumed wrong.

Not the first time, probably won't be the last.

(By the way, in the original post where I said "officials", I didn't capitalize the word at all.
I did, however, capitalize it in my response to you, since it was the first word in the sentence.
As for the comma, I have no idea what you mean. There was no comma used in either post.)

Oh...and with regard to the scanners, you can do whatever the heck you want.
Go through them all you want. Knock yourself out. Really.
Nobody's calling you crazy for doing that at all.

People are just allowed to have their own preference when it comes to that.

I haven't seen them in action, personally, and only have information about them based on what has been in the media.
The images I have seen have made me slightly uncomfortable about subjecting myself to them, but if they help eliminate the threat of idiots trying to take down airplanes, then it's something I'm willing to consider doing.

There's a simple way of dealing with all of this insanity... That is, screw the airlines, and take the train

I love the train (legroom, scenery, better food, etc), and I'm all for a nationwide high-speed system. S9o many people I've talked to are legitimately scared of or otherwise don't like flying, but their only gripe about the train is that it takes a day to get to NYC.

Until the terrorists use that you mean. (and let's be honest, where the trains go, a derail could FAR more damage with a lot less effort than 9/11)

See - in the UK you don't get a choice, if you're picked it's either the scanner or you don't fly. Personally I would much rather by frisked than an image taken. A well trained and competent searcher can find pretty much anything covert about your person in about the same time it takes to prep for the image, take the image and view it.

Sorry, I didn't realize that only the first result counts.

I realize that, and I do take the results with a grain of salt, so to speak. But some of the results are news sites. I haven't had the time to dig deeper, but I recently saw a few articles detailing abuses, such as the one someone posted about one of the employees making fun of another's "package", another where they found that the images were being stored after all, and another where a women who had gone thru a scanner overheard two of the employees making lewd comments. I didn't realize they hired Beavis and Butt-head for security.

We did just that when we went on our last cruise, except it was a bus instead of a train. Dealing with the planes and airports was enough of a pain the last time, and that was before 9/11. I don't care to ever set foot on a plane again. They can keep their little nickle-and-diming bullshit for all those extras like, "Do you want to bring luggage?" ("Nah", I'll just go naked the whole week!")

Actually, the first few results were about the UK incident. The others were blogs about it, and then towards the middle was the story in the OP.

Blaming one government for another government employee's actions is stupid.

Everyone prefers that I take the train. If I fly my ears pop for 24 hours afterward unless I sleep during takeoff and landing. Oh and I snore.

In all seriousness, the train is not a comparable mode of travel to flying.

If I take the train to visit my friend, it takes about six hours. The flight takes 45 minutes. Sometimes I can take the train, but more often I don't have a full day to devote to travel.

It still came up in a google search.
