Yeah, but the difference is, Mexicans intentionally sneak in here and we don't charge $500k to let them go back home. In fact, they don't want to go home. Send em back, they'll just sneak right back in.

The embassy hostages have been denied compensation for over thirty years. How about they pay us for invading our sovereign territory, violating international law and holding our citizens hostage for 444 days?
Did they sign the international law? If not, then it doesn't apply to them.

Article 22, Vienna Convention on Consular Relations:
1.The premises of the mission shall be inviolable. The agents of the receiving State may not enter them, except with the consent of the head of the mission.
2.The receiving State is under a special duty to take all appropriate steps to protect the premises of the mission against any intrusion or damage and to prevent any disturbance of the peace of the mission or impairment of its dignity.
3.The premises of the mission, their furnishings and other property thereon and the means of transport of the mission shall be immune from search, requisition, attachment or execution.
Iran was a signatory. Furthermore, diplomats have been subject to immunity from detention and arrest for centuries.
I was unaware the person being held was a diplomat. The story posted just says they are a hiker who illegally crossed the border.
