I found new respect for him for throwing himself into that. it takes a lot to point your finger at yourself in times like this.

I paused on Fox News while flipping channels, and Bill O'Reilly is claiming that the far-left "loons" are using this tragedy to attack the right because....I'm not sure really because I changed the channel. So much for toning down the rhetoric.

So, you pretty much caught Bill O'Reilly using this tragedy to attack the left.

I have more respect for Olberman too. I've often had a lack of respect for him as a Bill O'Reilly of the left.

But he wants to change the dialog after this. O'Reilly wants to ignore it. I guess that's the difference.

At the same time, though, he is using it to attack the right. But at least he sees the problem.

Well, that didn't take long, now did it? And people wonder why the world thinks the US is a political shit storm?

On a semi-related note, there's now a call to pass a bill to limit high capacity ammo clips and magazines.

Personally, I do feel there needs to better oversight in weapon purchases (all the guns the killer had were legally owned), but at the same time, I feel this bill is largely pointless as it simply means the person will have to carry more clips instead of more per clip.

Going after the weapons is just a bandaid solution and will do nothing to stop the underlying issues.

I can't stand 'feel good' legislating.

And again, Jon Stewart proves he can be more insightful as a comedian than any so called "journalist" out there, and certainly more so than any pundit out there.

(Canadian viewers can view it here)

I could not put it any better myself Mr. Stewart.

I'm sure he sees the problem, but I wouldn't hold my breath yet on whether anything actually changes with him. Give it a month. His attacks are going to mirror Bill O's, just with the added hypocrisy of pretending to "get it" and "tone down."

These Team Reds and Team Blues have too much to lose by passing up this golden opportunity. They are going to paint each other as bad guys...kinda like those two did already. All it will take are a statistically insignificant section of the Blue fringe nutjobs and Red fringe nutjobs to butt heads, and suddenly everyone's preconceived notions are "proven." Never waste a good crisis, right?

Personally, I'm not even convinced this is as much a political deal as it is just an unfortunate and twisted individual. Jury's still out on that one, even if the news media's isn't.

Pretty much. The first thought I had about this was "How many more freedoms are we gonna have taken away over THIS???"

-----A Congresswoman gets shot. Now we need more "gun control" and more restrictions on free speech
-----Because of "Wikileaks we now need government-issued "Internet ID's"
-----Because someone tried to blow up an airplane now we all need to be searched to the point it would be a sexual assault on the street

So the solution is that, just because of a few rotten apples, we have to throw out the whole barrel.

And remember this: Our country became the great country it once was because of FREEDOM. We have what we have today because of that. Dont think we're gonna keep it if we lose it.

                        Well, of course.

You know it's somehow the barrel's fault the apples went bad. 9.9

All of the above reminds me of a certain Austrian asshole with a funny little mustache and a huge gas bill. First thing his party did, was to take away everyone's firearms, fit the Jews with some stylish yellow stars...as well as insist that citizens be searched. With that said, I can't blame people from making the same comparisons. Seriously though, it doesn't surprise me that people are wanting tighter gun control. Nor does it surprise me that the average person is actually *tolerating* this shit. Seems they simply don't care about such things...until they're being felt up at the airport

Oh man Pro you hit the nail on the head!

Read the book "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich".

See where they talk about the "Reichstag Fire" and how it parallels with 9/11 and how BOTH governments used these incidents as excuses to pass laws that take away our freedoms. The problem is that most people rely off of "soundbyte news" and "official statements" from the government to get their information from. It's much more convenient than having to go to other places and research and read other books on this stuff that the mainstream media won't touch. When you do the latter you get a much different picture of the situation than what the government and mainstream media tell us.

Is there a more recent article than the one linked on the limit to ammunition clips? The one linked is from 1993. That just shows this isn't a recent problem.

As for the shooting, I hope Representative Giffords fully recovers. Politics aside, I think people forget that our politicians are people too with families and loved ones of their own.

It's not a few bad apples. You simply ignore the vast numbers of gun deaths as normal, because, for you, they are. If as many people died in plane crashes and hijackings as are killed by gun crime/accidents every year, we wouldn't have any planes left.
