    So they aren't fighting it all at once? If they can't do the first part of your bolded section, they can't go for the second one. It's going to be a long drawn out process one step at a time.

      AT some point, someone agreed to give these people these benefits. In most cases, these benefits were given in lieu of making more money. My mom is a teacher and she's not going to get rich on her pay but her benefits were one of the things that make it worth it for her (that and the joy of teaching a bunch of special snowflakes). It's funny, they put all of these requirements on teachers that effectively put them in the ranks of other professionals but when it comes to paying them like a professional, they balk. What's even funnier is that the governors making the biggest stink about education costs send their kids to private schools.
