I read in the Boston Globe today that Massuchusetts has been pressured to move its primary date to later in the year by the national Democratic Party.
The idea is that, since Obama is pretty much undoubtedly going to be running for a second term, moving the Massachusetts primary later in the game will make it less influential. A later primary in a state with mostly moderate Republicans will make it more likely for a more extreme Republican to win the nomination, and Obama would have an easier time winning.
This disgusts me to no end.
Look, I'll be honest. I don't like the Democrats in general, but this really upsets me. This sort of maneuvering is just plain dirty. And its not in the best interests of the Democratic Party either.
Suppose Obama isn't re-elected. I would think that the Democrats would want a more moderate, reasonable Republican. Someone like Scott Brown, or Olympia Snowe. Someone who is willing to work both sides of the aisle, instead of ignoring the other guys on principle.
Needless to say, I'm not a fan.
