I wouldn't say it is imminent but if things keep going the way they are, it might happen.

A few years ago, the neo-nazis came to Toledo to march. Everyone was pissed.... actually the neo-nazi showed up and the police convinced them to leave because they were prepared to secure the park area where they wanted to have their protest i guess. instead the nazi wanted to have a parade..... They left, never gave a speech had a parade, less than an hour after they leave you have a full blown riot where the blacks started to riot in protest and destoryed their own neighborhood and burnt some local businesses to the ground.... People tried to blame the nazis who has long since fled.

The moral of the story is people are fucking stupid and to prove they have hte power will destroy their own shit and blame it on someone else.

On the subject of riots, I highly recommend Anna Deavere Smith's Fires in the Mirror and Twilight: Los Angeles. She interviewed people involved with the Crown Heights riots and Rodney King riots (respectively) and performs them in a one-woman show. They were both taped and aired by PBS; you may be able to find them on Youtube. Very eye-opening into the destructive and hateful natures of people.

They might be having some civil unrest in Minnesota soon. Turns out the government shutdown there already has or will soon prevent the renewal of licenses to various breweries and bars.

If nobody can make, sell or serve beer, it will lead to a beer shortage...

The Tea Party wants to make cuts to the welfare system and disabled/elderly benefits.

They say there will be no civil unrest so long as people can watch their idiot boxes to see who will win the next American Idol or somesuch...

...but what if the cuts make them no longer able to afford their bread and circuses....and homes?

You'll have a shitload of poor and minorities on the street, with nothing to entertain them...

            ...and NOTHING TO LOSE!

....what happens when the bread and circuses STOP?

EniofBri, speaking of the tea party, if Michelle Bachmann wins the election, this thread will no longer be asking if violence is imminent, but how long before it starts and how large it will get.
Michelle Bachmann has in the past spoken of being in favor of forced conversions to Christianity and forced "therapy" for gays and lesbians.

To be honest, Michelle Bachmann scares me so much, if she is nominated I WILL be buying a firearm to protect myself from her government, because I am not Christian, I am not straight, and I will not hesitate to kill any person who tries to force me to become either.

I am Christian and I am straight, and I'll still be buying a gun if she gets anywhere close to a position of power.

I am not christian, I am straight, I look for any reason to acquire another gun, so it really a non issue to me, although if civil unrest were imminent I probably would go for AR-15ish style, maybe in a .308WIN because well I want takedown power that the .223 just doesn't offer. Handguns are nice for up close protection as are shotguns, but in a roving mob situation I want to keep you 500M out. and well I already have access to plenty of handguns.

How the hell do people even take a person like Bachmann seriously? For that matter, how the hell does anyone take that Jackass from Ohio seriously?

Well if things were to get bad I would be more on the roof, or maybe I could construct a watch tower.

I honestly think something drastic would have to happen like a 9/11 times 10 to really plunge America into civil unrest.... such as kick all the leaches who depend on welfare but would be perfectly capable of providing for themselves if they had to off of it, so then the money could be used for those who actually need it. That might piss a lot of people off. Electing Sarah Palin makes people really uneasy, I don't see why as most of the presidents of late seem to be glorified puppets/ used car salesmen

If you like, but how would becoming a Jehovah's Witness help matters?

                              It's a joke.

The newsletter that Jehovah's Witnesses distribute is called The Watchtower, as is their official website.

Sorry; I was trying to lighten the mood a bit. Didn't mean to confuse anyone.
