It's incredibly irresponsible for the GOP to give some moron the VP nod just to placate a certain group of morons they'd like to vote for them.

They did it with Palin, and I believe they'll do it again in 2012 with Bachmann or similar.

I don't care where people stand on the issues - they cannot possibly believe that the Republican party cares about America. They are willing to put an incompetent and barely literate fringe lunatic within a heart attack of the Big Red Button.

Actually, "irresponsible" doesn't even begin to describe it.

Sigh, the state of american politics right now sucks so bad.

Looking for someone to get past ultra conservative party base will NOT be a person who the independents will vote for.

Perry is a good example, stuff that comes out of his mouth only really appeals to the far far right. Top that with a grip on the truth as strong as Michele Bachmann's.

Romney is the only one I think has a chance in a national election. And he will be eaten alive in the primaries.

And the best part is that what the American public considers to be the "middle ground" is considered "right to far right" by most of the rest of the world. Most of the people who are actually liberal in a global sense are treated as far left whackos for the most part while you have to go into serious right-wing loonie territory before you get the same treatment.

Huntsman would also do decently if he made it past the primaries... but he too will never make it past the primaries... he's been tainted by accepting an appointment from Obama.

Recent polls now showing Perry as the front runner. All indications are he has a good shot a the presidency unless Obama rallies more voters to his side.
Of course it is still early.

I watched a bit of CNN this morning, and they were interviewing some Tea Party nutter. The correspondent mentioned Michelle Bachmann's recent drop in the polls and he said, "There are some in the Tea Party who don't feel that she's electable." Sadly, I got the impression that it had more to do with her being a woman and not, y'know, insane. Anyway. "The ultimate goal is to beat Obama." Okay, so she asked, "Well, Mitt Romney seems to have widespread support throughout the GOP." "Oh, well, the problem with the Republican elite is that they alienate independent voters like the Tea Party." Which was followed by frothing at the mouth and several mentions of "RomneyCare."

Yes, Tea Party, please make Rick Perry the GOP candidate. No better way to ensure an Obama victory.

Perry's book pretty much says it all for me. He's not interested in social program reform. He's interested in social program destruction. He is also interested in returning to the "happy" days of the 19th century when companies could run roughshod over thier workers and the places they live. I mean how many people seriously want to return to the days when Pittsburgh was so polluted that it was like night at times?

I'm not particularly enamored by Obama as I don't think he's displayed any sort of leadership capability. He seems to have been following the winds for these years. But he's a hell of alot better than any of the folks that the Republicans are putting up against him.

He doesn't, honestly. Polls don't mean a heck of a lot at the moment as we're not talking country wide stage yet. Once Perry hits the country wide stage in a real election and all his crazy comes out moderates/independents will flee screaming.

Polling any candidate right now is pointless because there's no one on the other side for comparison yet. Obama's approval may be down, but there's a difference between "Do you approve of Obama" and "Would you rather Obama or Bush 2.0 but half as smart?"

lovely article from a UK news agency detailing how his "donors" have benefited from their donations

including attempting to give the opposition jobs they are not qualified for to "shut them up"-I'm not sure how running a landfill qualifies one to receive an offer to be a state university regent.....

Normally GK I'd agree, but once he gets the national stage, he'll just start hitting the "Obama killed the economy" thing over and over and over and over. If he can do it loud enough, long enough and try to bury the social stuff, he's got a good shot.

The economy is still struggling, unemployment is still high, a repeat recession is possible. People angry about these things always take it out in incumbents.

Oh and they're going to blame Obama for the debt ceiling mess too.
