  • Prospective 2012 US Presidential Candidates

Ok, so, looking at Wikipedia (I know, not the most reliable of sources) I came across a list of prospective candidates for the Presidential election. What do you think of some of these names?

    DEMOCRATIC:
Matt Damon - um, ok? Hell, I had to look to see if he was old enough

    REPUBLICAN:
John Bolton - Former US Ambassador to UN
David Duke - Former La. House member
Rudy Giuliani - Please, God, no. Especially this year. I don't want to hear "9/11" anymore than we're about to hear it in the next month.
Sarah Palin - Only if we get more SNL bits about her
George Pataki - Doesn't he try and fail horribly every time?
Paul Ryan - US Representative from Wisconsin

    CONSTITUTION:
Virgil Goode - Former Representative from Virginia

    INDEPENDENT:
    Donald Trump - o_0

Trump has been stumping it up for a while, but anyone who would think that such a huge failure should be allowed anywhere near the Oval Office is a fool. His only substantial success is promoting himself as a success.

Trump isn't going to run because he doesn't want to give up what he has.

I think Trump's already said he wouldn't run. The top GOP contenders currently are Romney, Perry, Bachmann, and Ron Paul. I can't imagine the Democrats running anyone besides Obama.

Who do you think would be nominated instead?

I don't think too many of Obamas supporters will be in line with him this time--many have already turned on him. They'll probably back Hillary. Don't know if she's going to throw her hat into the ring though.

Hilary has said that she won't run again. Honestly, we had a good Democratic candidate in Congress - engaging, enthusiastic, well-liked, willing to butt heads with the toddlers in the GOP.

And then he sent pictures of his dick to various ladies. Thanks a lot, Anthony Wiener.

I know a lot of liberals/Dems are disappointed in President Obama. Hell, I'm a bit disappointed that he didn't realize what he would be up against as soon as the GOP took Congress, and that he didn't push more legislation through during the first two years. But I'll still support him.

Yea I still support Obama as well. the economy was to baldy messed up to be fixed in 4 year and maybe not even 8.

Republicans have been playing hard, you cant have anything ball since he took office. Also they been trying to shift the economic blame for the deficit from the bush era tax cuts and spending to Obama's Keynesian biased economic recovery bailouts and stimulus. Even then they forget that Bush also pushed some bailouts out before he left office.

I am really afraid that if Perry or Palin becomes the next president it will be the end of Social Security and Medicare. I am not using it yet, but I have family members with Cancelled Pensions that can barely make ends meet.

Perry I think is the most dishonest of all of the republican candidates. The Texas Job Miracle is nothing more then the increase in minimum wage jobs to support the great increases in the Texas Population. Dont believe me, look how many house seats they picked up from the last census. Texas has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country and is number 1 in the most minimum wage jobs. And the top 10% of earners in the state pay 4.4% of their income to the state. Where the bottom 90% pay 12%

I am in the boat that the entirety on the bush tax cuts Need to expire. I get that the federal government pays for infrastructure that businesses need to function. That when paying unemployment and welfare keeps the crime rate down. And pumps money back into the economy. Yes there are abuses in the system, but they are in a minority.

I think both parties are wrong when it comes to jobs. The republicans say its uncertainty in the market, the threat of increased taxes etc.. Its bullshit. A company has the number of employees necessary to make a profit with minimum waste. You can cook up any scenario where lets say a tax increase would cause the company to fire someone. But the reality of the situation those would be marginal employees. They would be gone if the owner made a horrible mistake the cost the company money.

The democrats say that they just need to regulate business more. Well that's bullshit too. We are not a country of Labor anymore. the boat is well past sailed on keeping manufacturing jobs in this country, and that's the jobs that we can make quickly. Labor will always occur where it is most cost effective to do so. The major problem is we are becoming a country that makes information. Meaning we need more support in those areas, and more EDUCATION. We set up a system where education is the first thing cut. We send out dumb people who are only qualified for minimum wage and/or manufacturing jobs.

Anyone who says they have a plan to lower gas costs is lying. It is not possible. Our tapable reserves are SMALL compared to the ones being exploited now. We could produce from them, in 4 years 3% of our current fuel needs. Improving the value of the dollar would help. But the undeniable truth of the situation is. The rest of the world caught up to us in the level of demand. Simple Economic principle that everyone who says they can solve the problem ignores. Yea you can go after speculators but gas will never get back down to 2$ a gallon. Its only going to get worse as the largest producers of oil see their wells fill with more and more water.

the only solution is alternative energy sources and research into hydrogen production, ethanol production, battery efficiency and fusion reactors.

This makes me think of a post that was put up on another forum. I can't possibly improve upon the analogy, so I shall merely quote it.

That chick in your group of friend, the hot one who flirts all night to see how many free drinks she can get, is loaded. so much so that she burps out shotgun, and no one argues, cause yer car has those weird rear seat safety windows, and they know her head won't fit out those. And so you start driving, she gets sick, and ...

she pukes in yer lap. and then for the rest of the 45 minute drive, everyone bitches at you for stinking up the car with yer puked on pants.

That's Obama. the driver. With Tea partiers all over his back seat.

It's going to be Obama vs. some random Republican. And no matter what, the Democrats are going to vote for Obama because their only other option will be some conservative nutcase (because we don't have any normal Conservatives that seem interested in running) and most Democrats and moderates don't want some conservative nutcase who is going to cut medicare, social security, personal freedoms, and civil rights.

Do any of you think any of the presidential hopefuls stand a good chance of unseating Obama in November 2012? I've been wondering about this myself.

No, I think republican pandering to the far right will alienate way to many moderates and unaffiliated. Unless by some Miracle Romney gets the nomination. The polls are split now only because the candidates have not been flushed out enough for people to get to know them other then this mass mob of people who claim to be able to make the country perfect again.

Pretty much this. The GOP seems deadset on nominating someone that doesn't have a hope in Hell outside of their own little echo chamber. The echo chamber isn't big enough to get you the White House. You need moderates and independents. neither of which are going to vote for the lunatics the GOP is parading around as hopefuls at the moment.
