That's about the funniest damn Simpsons-related thing I've seen in years!--- I want the republicans out of my bedroom, the democrats out of my wallet, and both out of my first and second amendment rights. Whether you are part of the anal-retentive overly politically-correct left, or the bible-thumping bellowing right, get out of the thought control business --- Alan Nathan

... I really don't get why people are so down on Ron Paul.
I was watching MSNBC the other day and the political commentators were talking about a poll that had Perry, Romney and Paul in double digits, then Bachman and the others... they commented on Perry, Romney, Bachman and Huntsman (I believe).
It's like they're afraid to mention his name three times, like he's the Candyman or Beetlejuice or something...

Ron Paul is a very simplistic thinker. He tries to reduce complicated issues down to the point where a free market will magically solve them. I understand the appeal of having a "magic ticket" like that, but it's not that easy.
He needs to educate himself on how people (real people, in the real world) think and act. I feel that Ron Paul's incredibly out of touch. I know people like him - they find the world confusing because they're socially inept and never got to understand human interaction. But trying to understand society from the standpoint of one simple theoretical framework doesn't work, as tempting as it may be for them.

I have some family members who are just nuts about Ron Paul. My aunt and uncle swear by him, saying he's an economic genius and that he's a politician who finally wants to run the country by the Constitution. They claim that people are scared of him because his ideas are so good for the country.
Many of the people in the Rush Limbaugh camp seem to strongly dislike Ron Paul, and I don't see why. Granted, he's not the Reagan worshiping, Bible-thumping neocon that they wish their candidates to be, but he is adamant about some things that they value, like low taxes. In fact, I think he wants to abolish the income tax (I could look this up, but I don't feel like it). He also wants to balance the budget and reduce spending. I would think that would score him a few points in their book.
Also, he wants to put us back on the gold standard. I'm not sure how the right-wing crowd feels about that, and honestly, I don't know enough about the subject to debate how good that would be for our financial policy.

I think that would pretty much finish off the US as a nation. >.>
Is there anyone on the GOP ticket list right now that isn't an idiot or a lunatic or both? Huntsman I guess, but he's not enough of a lunatic for the GOP base.
Right now its:
Michele Bachmann ( Crazy )
Herman Cain ( Jackass )
Newt Gingrich ( Jackass )
Jon Huntsman ( No chance )
Gary Johnson ( Who? )
Ron Paul ( Probably Crazy Too )
Mitt Romney ( Jackass )
Rick Santorum ( Absolutely Terrifyingly Crazy )
Yes, Santorum is crazier than Bachmann. Bachmann's loopy. But Santorum brought home a dead 20 week old fetus and made all his children hug it and talk to it so they "Knew they had a brother". I can't imagine the level of damage that would inflict on the psyche of a 5 year old.
I mean that's sociopath territory. >.>

"Upon their son's death, Rick and Karen Santorum opted not to bring his body to a funeral home. Instead, they bundled him in a blanket and drove him to Karen's parents' home in Pittsburgh. There, they spent several hours kissing and cuddling Gabriel with his three siblings, ages 6, 4 and 1 1/2. They took photos, sang lullabies in his ear and held a private Mass."
"Rick and Karen were appalled to see him described -- "a 20-week-old fetus" -- on a hospital form. They changed the form to read "20-week-old baby."
He keeps a picture of the fetus on his desk. >.> For reference, a 20 week old fetus is essentially a small, translucent lizard that will fit in the palm of your hand ( Which is what he has for a picture....a fetus in his hand ). Just so you have the full horror in your mental image. I wish I was making this up.
"Santorum, a Pennsylvania Republican, appeared on the Senate floor with oversize illustrations of fetuses in various stages of delivery. He described the process by which a physician "brutally kills" a child "by thrusting a pair of scissors into the back of its skull and suctioning its brains out." He asked that a 5-year-old girl be admitted to the visitors' gallery, though Senate rules forbid children under 6."
Lunatic.
