Teysa, this assumes that Gingritch ever had much of the gay vote. Though, oddly, there ARE gay hardcore Conservatives - I've met a few, but I've never had the chance to ask one why they stick to that side when a fair portion of the politicians on that side treat them as though they're a useless minority at best and a pox on society at worst. I can only assume that they don't mind not being able to marry legally, but if that's your thing and you're fiscally conservative, someone like Romney is probably your best bet, not Gingritch. Romney is more likely, I think, to simply not work for gay rights; Gingritch is more likely to really vilify them.

Part of the reason the GOP has so much trouble is they are a mix of fiscal and social conservatives, and they tend to care only about their own side of the GOP fence: the fiscal conservatives tend not to give a rats ass about the social issues, the social don't care about the fiscal, but the politicians have to pander to both to get elected.Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

IT'S NOT JUST FUCKING ABOUT MARRIAGE
Gay rights include things like housing rights, employment rights, education rights, and a host of other rights, not limited to the right not to be killed by fucking bigots (the gay panic defense is still considered a valid defense in several states, Utah being one of them, not long ago a group literally got away with attempted murder, there was no doubt that they intended to kill the man, instead got assault and battery because of the gay panic defense).
Less than half the states include equal rights for gays and lesbians in areas other than just marriage. And unless I'm confusing this with another article, Gingrich was asked about generic gay rights and not just marriage equality.
If a gay or lesbian has no problem getting fired for being gay, evicted for being gay, expelled from a school for being gay, or being killed because they are gay and die knowing their attacker will never receive proper punishment, then by all means, vote for a conservative, otherwise, do us all a favor and vote liberal."I'm Gar and I'm proud" -slytovhand

I say that as not only a Christian but as a human being.
I promise you I will never disrespect any LGBT person ever, nor will I attempt to cram my religious beliefs down their throat.

I've known a fair number of douchebags who also happened to be gay.

Being a gay conservative makes about as much sense as being a black KKK member or a Jewish Nazi.
Edited to add:
Now, before anyone flips their shit on me - I'll concede that it would be much more beneficial for a gay person to find a candidate on the dem side that has a more fiscally conservative voting record than to try to find a republican candidate that won't throw them under the bus.Last edited by Peppergirl; 12-31-2011, 05:38 PM.

Second, most democrats are a lot more fiscally conservative than the party is given credit for. They only seem really liberal because the only thing we have to compare them to anymore is the teaparty cut all government types, and when compared to that, even a moderate position (when compared to international rather than domestic politics) starts to seem liberal."I'm Gar and I'm proud" -slytovhand
