What I am about to post will probably not make me very popular, could easily go into the section "Things I hate", and I fully expect a lot of people to disagree with me.

For years many people have realized that the system is not only badly broken, but corrupt AND broken. Special interests big money pretty much owns the government, and most politicians flat out lie to our faces. We might not agree on everything, but a lot of us agree on the above. Yet besides the 'occupy wallstreet' movement all we do is pretty much sit around and grumble. Which I am as guilty about as anybody. Then I saw a news thing that got me thinking.

Russia had a protest recently. Chinese students once faced tanks to protest. All over the world, people who could be KILLED for protesting (or worse) have stood up and said. "Ya know what? Enough is enough." Yet we can't seem to be assed to do anything but complain.

We can blame the media for dividing us, we can blame the politicians for playing the blame game, and the list goes on. It's easy to pass the buck and say "Well why don't YOU do something?" A few people can not do it alone, but I guarantee that if russia can muster up 10,000 people for a protest to the politicians then we can do more. The best part is, we do not have to even travel to Washington DC to do it. Though it would be a lot more effective to be there in person, millions and millions, there is a way people can participate who can not afford to travel to D.C.

Grab a camera. Make a video, let your voice be heard. Post the video under the header 'Let my voice be heard' in youtube. Those that can make it to Washington, do so. Let your voice be heard. I am talking about anything that you think the government is doing wrong. No profanity, clear message, no shouting or ranting. Peaceful, not rioting or anything. Just a clear, direct message to the government. Special interests, big money, and the like should not control the government. We do, and it is time that they are reminded of that fact.

If this is even to controversial for fratching I will understand if it is deleted. I just think it is time we let the powers that be know that things are out of hand.

Those that think I am out of my mind, please do not hesitate to let me know. That is what it is all about, your voice should be heard.

I would not call this controversial, heh. If anything, more power to you. To be honest, US politics and what the US population will swallow as a result, has been amazing me since Bush. It amazes me every day that more people aren't in the streets just screaming at the corrupt system you have down there.

But by the same note, your politicians and your media, and all the money going around therein, do a fantastic job of keeping you divided and in line. In fact that's practically the entire purpose behind some of your media outlets at this point. Keeping everyone riled up in their own little camps, angry at the other little camps.

The death knell of the US political system will be the day when people on the left and the right look at each other and go "Hey wait a sec....both our problems have the same cause". -.-

I think part of it is people who feel that we are going to get screwed no matter who elect. The government is now the land of the wealthy and the elite.

It's fascinating to me to see the differences between the Canadian political system and the American. I would take the Canadian any day of the week.

I would love a parliament system, IIRC every party has their say and all parties have to *gasp* work together to get things done.

Not quite - it's more based on a majority system on a party basis and as long as one side or a coalition has majority they get to speak and act on behalf of the population. However, it certainly seems far better than the pig-headed farces that have happened of late with budgets and the like.

Granted, you end up stuck with them for the five or whatever years you vote them for, but at least you know what they're going to call it when they shaft you.

At least parliamentary systems have the "Vote of No Confidence," which can bring down a government early. Seems to work well enough for most of the governments that use it.
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

The way the sides are entrenched in the US it would be used every two minutes.

Oh, they'd find a way. Remember, make something idiot-proof, and you'll get a "better" idiot to fuck it up

Locally, quite a few people bitch and moan about the bullshit that goes on downtown. Keep in mind I live out in the 'burbs, and cannot vote in city elections. Never mind that whatever happens *inside* the city limits...affects the rest of the county. What's annoying, is that people will complain about certain officials not doing their jobs (or that the taxes are too high, there aren't jobs, the city school system sucks, etc.) ...yet continue to keep voting for the people that gave them those jobs

No wonder then, that the same political party (the Democrats) has had control of the city since the 1930s. They've become so entrenched, that it's extremely difficult to get rid of them. The same people get in power...and stay there. Nothing changes, and it's business as usual.
