Hey sometimes that is the only way to trick the evil witches into getting melted.

I remember hearing on CBCs As It Happens program a couple of weeks ago an interview with a Female state legislator who is (seriously) introducing a bill to make it so that ALL men who seek treatment for erectile disfunction and try and get boner meds to receive mandated and manditory psychological counseling. the reasoning was "IT all might just be in their mind".
I'm lost without a paddle and I'm headed up sh*t creek.

That's a good bill because she is right. Erectile dysfunction can have a mental cause and that should always be addressed first instead of jumping to unnecessary and possibly harmful drugs

Jumping straight to meds for anything that could have a mental cause without even attempting to treat the problem instead of the symptoms is not the smartest thing in the world.

A doctor speaks up that unwarranted trans-vaginal ultrasounds are legislated rape.

I do not feel that it is reactionary or even inaccurate to describe an unwanted, non-indicated transvaginal ultrasound as “rape”. If I insert ANY object into ANY orifice without informed consent, it is rape. And coercion of any kind negates consent, informed or otherwise.

This has nothing to do with anything but power and in that sense it is a rape.

This. I'm a very liberal female in a sexual relationship with a guy. I don't want children because it wouldn't be fair for them (I can barely take care of myself). My boyfriend and I have talked about what happens if I get preggers (I am on birth control but we both know it's not infallible). I refused to let people dictate to me what I can or cannot do with my own body.

Worse yet I see posts on Facebook by both my parents bitching about how their tax dollars are going towards food stamps and the like and abortions for under privileged women.

I was just thinking about this, I'm wondering if women would have a valid lawsuit against the legislators here on those grounds as it basically boils down to refusing them medical treatment unless they are violated first.

If a woman filed a suit against a doctor for performing an unwanted procedure, I'm pretty sure the doctors would stop performing them.

I said the legislators, not the doctors.

I know. I was pointing out that doctors are performing what could legally be argued as rape (ie, and unwanted insertion into a woman's body, which she is coerced into agreeing to. That coersion trumps concent)

Suing a doctor would quite probably stop many, maybe even most doctors from doing it at all. What do the legislators do then?

There's a *big* difference between supporting and voting for a bill that makes it difficult for a woman to get an abortion, to supporting and voting for a bill that waters down the laws against rape.

Arrest the doctors if they perform an abortion, either way the doctors are screwed.

The legislators can't arrest doctors for performing abortions, they can only pass laws that make it illegal. Unfortunately, a pretty important case called Rowe v Wade places some restrictions on them.

I'm no fan of abortion, but I can't see how anyone in good conscious can try to dictate a woman's right to her own medical care.

This whole war on abortion and women's health the GOP and the conservatives are doing is fucking ridiculous, IMO. The economy of the country should be a bigger issue, NOT this! The whole thing with the transvaginal ultrasounds as a prerequisite for abortions is ridiculous. They have no idea what mental and emotional state the women could be going through to make the decision of terminating the pregnancy. What if it's a teen mother not ready to have a child, or a woman who simply can't afford having a child or even a another or can't have it due to medical issues that could harm her and/or the child? What about if it was due to rape, incest or because she was pressured into getting an abortion due to her culture (ie illegitimate pregnancy) or being in an abusive relationship? I honestly think the transvaginal ultrasound requirement just makes things worse in that sense.
