Ladies of Arizona, you're not menstruating. You're having a miscarriage?

Arizona Abortion Bill: Legislators Pass Three Bills, Including One That Redefines When Life Begins

A sentence in the bill defines gestational age as "calculated from the first day of the last menstrual period of the pregnant woman," which would move the beginning of a pregnancy up two weeks prior to conception.
Ladies help me out here... Are they saying you're pregnant before you even ovulate?

    And...

With their setting the deadline for an abortion at 18 weeks, isn't this now really 16 weeks? Isn't this the point where most women actually realize that they are pregnant?

Apparently. If they keep this up then women who DONT get pregnant are going to be murderers every time they ovulate and dont conceive.

        As for masturbating men...

Actually, the average male below the age of sixty is going to spend a lot of time behind bars.

Damn, if that had been serious I wouldn't have been surprised.

Which, of course, is the point. If they can't ban abortion outright, make it legal only for those who don't yet know they're eligible for one.

Um it's more like six to eight weeks that women generally find out, not sixteen.

if that was the case, then the statistics would be showing more second-trimester abortions, rather than first-trimester. >.>

A quick skim through the article reveals that the third bill requires that adoption and birth are taught as the "successful outcomes" of an unwanted pregnancy. Yeah sure, and while we're at it, how about we dump those unwanted babies on the doorsteps of the people who sign these ballots? Then they can raise all the unwanted children.

not in any manner defending the bills, but that tiny clip is very misleading when taken out of context, and "calculated from" =/="calculated as"(which calculated from means date of LMP +14 days, not date of LMP is pregnancy date as that little clip implies, wrongly)

But while the bill's definition of when pregnancy begins is new in legislation, it's not necessarily new for doctors. Elizabeth Nash, states issues manager for Guttmacher Institute, a reproductive health research organization in Washington, said it corresponds with how doctors typically determine gestational age. She said since the exact date of conception cannot be pinpointed, doctors use the day of the woman's last menstrual period to gauge the duration of a pregnancy. The method does not provide an exact date.

I'm not a lady, but my wife has been through two pregnancies.

Both times, the gestational age of the baby was taken from the date of the end of my wife's last menstrual cycle. There are a couple of different ways of calculating it, and that is the way it was done in our case. I understand that it's the most common simply because there is a known, measurable fixed point, rather than either fertilization or implantation (both of which are impossible to pin to an exact date).

That was a senator trying to show the idiocy of those trying to legislate a female's reproductive cycle. She wasn't trying to outlaw wanking, just stop the bill that would restrict a woman's rights.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think it is funny that the party that believes one law on business is too much has no problem with laws like this.

If I understood correctly when I was trying to figure out whether or not I was capable of fathering my son (long story), they're not using that as the start of gestation, they use it to calculate when she started ovulating. From there, they can get the conception date.

This law reads as if conception starts before ovulation, even before intercourse. This law reads that adolescent girls going through puberty are getting pregnant and miscarrying every ~28 days.

Funny on a period tracker app I have, it has a icon to put if I've had me some lovins. Since my guy and I are separated by lots and lots of space I think if I ever got pregnant we would know a good time of conception.

Politicians need to get out of the bedroom. I don't think they were ever invited in but just managed to burst the door open.
