What if you're on birth control that prevents menstrual periods and you get knocked up anyway? My last real period was 8 years ago.

Since you're on birth control, you're a slut and a prostitute and therefore unable to be a fit mother. They'll make you keep the pregnancy and then take the baby into custody after you give birth so that you can't apply for socialist welfare

most physicians do use LMP+14 as the conception date, as ovulation is not always spot on, it can be anywhere during the time from LMP to NMP, some women ovulate 2x per cycle, I used to ovulate DURING menstruation. The egg is viable for 24 hours, sperm is viable for up to 72 hours, conception occurs usually in the Fallopian tube and implantation occurs up to 8 days after that, with all those variables do you really think it's possible to say "you conceived on x day", newsflash, it's not possible unless your charting, taking temperatures daily, and observing cervical mucus changes.

Well, if your birth control fails (and you're in Arizona) you'll legally have the oldest living fetus in history.

...or, if you wanted an abortion and didn't want a fight that would drag on past when you gave birth and it became moot, you could simply lie and give a good guess at a date when asked.

I think I saw that on House. Something like...

              House: "You're pregnant."
Patient: "I can't be! I've got <thing in arm> that stops me getting pregnant."
House: "I know, I saw the scar. You aren't getting your periods, are you?"
Patient: "The doc said that if this worked, I wouldn't!"
House: "Well, if it doesn't work, you wont either."

Menstruating is equivalent to miscarrying ot being pregnant?! What kind of ass backwards logic is that! Menstruating is when the lining of the uterus is sloughed off if conception doesn't happen. As for conception, that's when the sperm fertilizes the egg. Then there's the whole abortion thing. Abortion means terminating a pregnancy. MAP's and Birth Control Pills don't terminate pregnancies, they prevent them from happening. Ru-486, D&C's and D&E's and Methotrexate DO terminate pregnancies. Big fucking difference.

I'm not sure if you're attacking my logic or not, but I'll defend it anyway.

This law reads that life begins before it is even technically/biologically conceived. Since the unfertilized egg is discarded during a menstrual cycle, would that mean that the "life" is discarded? Wouldn't that, in turn, be the equivalent of a miscarriage according to the definitions set forth in this law?

The only lack of logic that I see here is this new insane idea of when life begins.

Not really. It's not 'life' with any sort of potential until fertilised.

Yea, you've hit upon the reasons behind driving the law.

It's baby steps. Some people have in mind an end goal (say, making abortion illegal) that cannot be done in one go. *But* what they can do is redefine medical terms into legal terms. Thus, they take a single step along a path that takes them to that end goal.

They take the medical definition of the start of pregnancy (date of last period) and twist it from its original meaning (a clear, measureable date from which fetal development can be measured) to a legal meaning they can use (if pregnancy is defined as *this*, then anything that ends pregnancy being legally defined as abortion)

It looks like this Bill has become a Law
                        From the Examiner

In the art of political spin, I came up with the following:

"Under Governor Brewer's Conservative leadership, pregnancy rates for unwed teens in Arizona have rocketed to astronomical numbers".

"Governor Brewer fights health care while millions of women suffer repetitive miscarriages".
