  • Republican Senate Candidate: Female body can shut down a pregnancy in case of rape

    http://littlegreenfootballs.com/arti...comments/#ctop

“First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV in an interview posted Sunday. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Akin said that even in the worst-case scenario — when the supposed natural protections against unwanted pregnancy fail — abortion should still not be a legal option for the rape victim.

“Let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work, or something,” Akin said. “I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child.”
After I read this I had to check my calendar to make sure it actually WAS 2012.

That. That. That fails on SO many levels. Somewhere, a biologist is sobbing his eyes out at a statement that stupid.

How the hell do we keep electing these morons? I mean we have candidates who call themselves fiscal conservatives but the only thing they are fiscally responsible about is making sure that more of our treasury finds its way to people who don't really need it. And when told something that is contrary to their beliefs they either ignore it or state that it is wrong.

                    BUT BUT BUT.....

He mispoke in "off the cuff remarks"

AND I want to know what quack of a supposed Doctor or Doctors gave him this "legitimate" medical information?????

just another example as one commenter of the article I read (I was going to post this) said "of the Republicans war on women" and this one:
In reviewing my off-the-cuff remarks, it's clear that I misspoke in this interview and it does not reflect the deep empathy I hold for the thousands of women who are raped and abused every year,"

Translation: "I cannot think and speak at the same time".
I'm lost without a paddle and I'm headed up sh*t creek.

His statements were not intended to be factual.

But the icing on this epic failcake? Even if you could possibly manage to convince yourself that this pregnancy shutdown theory is true, it changes nothing. NOTHING.

Outlaw abortion and birth control if you want more dead babies. It really is that simple. But perhaps too long for a bumper-sticker, so I guess it doesn't count

Romney: Candidate's comments on rape "inexcusable"

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Republican Mitt Romney says a GOP Senate candidate’s comments on rape are ‘‘insulting, inexcusable, and, frankly, wrong.’’

Romney says he found Missouri Congressman Todd Akin’s comments ‘‘offensive.’’ Akin said in an interview Sunday that women’s bodies can prevent pregnancies in ‘‘a legitimate rape’’ and that conception is rare in such cases.

Romney says he has ‘‘an entirely different view.’’ The presumptive GOP presidential nominee also called on Akin to correct his statements.

Because more and more Missourians (my home state) are getting on the "Open Mouth Insert Foot" bandwagon or they are just getting stupidier and speaking without thinking esp when ON CAMERA.

an interesting footnote: I was watching CNN this morning and the presenter made an interesting observation: Rep. Akin did NOT say what exactly he misspoke about ie. abortion, rape, the very bad and inaccurate medical information he spouted or that he was a complete dumbass and insulting toward women.

Interesting. Possible setup to make Romney look good?
