Scary, ain't it? These are the people deciding how the Government will regulate things like new pharmaceuticals, and what chemicals are being dumped into our rivers.

George doesn't have to exemplify the stereotypes of Deliverance. I don't know why they keep insisting on doing so.

I can't recall when I've heard a Democrat deny science in recent years.

Fact is, I was a life long Republican until John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his running mate. The moment I laid eyes on her, and saw her try and upstage him, I realized the Repubs had lost both their collective minds and souls. I didn't want to be associated with that, so I became a Democrat in a sort of protest (see where they drove me?).

I'm still a fiscal conservative in most respects (I don't have a problem with social programs as long as they are paid for, and as long as they are temporary assistance).

Obama is definitely middle of the road. He hasn't gone anywhere near as far as he could, or that liberals wanted him to go, on social issues. He really isn't that big on gun control, and the only real expansion of social programs he's pushed has been health care. He quickly realized single payer would fail, and moderated his stance by going with Romney's insurance reform plan. He's pragmatic, not dogmatic, in his approach.

If the GOP has any sense, they'll sit down and rethink their strategy, figure out what America really truly wants, what they need to stand firm on or compromise on. Maybe, just maybe, they'll find a candidate with a functioning brain, who isn't a warmonger, a robber baron, a blowhard or a sociopath. Someone who understands that rich white men are not the only ones in this country that matter. Maybe then they'll get back on track.

            I'm not holding my breath.

Amen to that. However, you're not ever going to see that until serious changes to the political landscape, especially giving less power to the lobbyists and special interests, happens.

Right now both Democrats and Republicans are greatly distracted by these guys more than the millions of people who went to the polls on Tuesday.

Dunno - why would they change their strategy? What they should be putting forward is their beliefs, and I think that's what they did to the extent that I can see the GOP folding in the next two decades. Its core beliefs are pretty damned nasty right now.

Well, unless their strategy was to insult half the potential voting base and hope they still voted for them, of course.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch.

The middle ages called, they want their barbaric beliefs back.

Now you've got me trying to figure how much they did insult or degrade... women is half, "moochers" is 47%, LGBT is nobody knows... if people actually took serious offense at being treated like that, it would be a wonder they made it to 20%; instead, it was nearly half. And "it's the economy, stupid" only makes sense when, at minimum, there's evidence that candidate would actually be better for the economy. (Well, I suppose it would also make sense if they'd be worse and that's the outcome you wanted...)

I'm loving how the Republicans say that they are the ones who stand up for liberty and freedom and yet they are the ones who are refusing to accept the result of a free and democratic election.

That's because they think if it really was a free and democratic election, then they certainly could have bought it. The fact that they couldn't in their eyes means that it wasn't fair.

Without getting into the merits of the complaint each time, they said the same about the Democratic reaction to the 2000 election.
