  • Pregnancy From Rape = God's Intent

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/l...,2063075.story

An Indiana Senate candidate was asked about his views regarding abortion in cases of rape. His reply was that those pregnancies were gifts from God.

I'll tell you what party he belongs to, but I think you can probably guess that on your own.

What the fuck is wrong with these people?!?! I can't believe we allow guys like him to be in positions of power.

When pressed on the matter by a reporter after the debate, and asked if that also meant that the rape itself was an act of God, Mourdock was outraged by the implication:
"Are you trying to suggest somehow that God preordained rape, no I don't think that," Mourdock said. "Anyone who would suggest that is just sick and twisted. No, that's not even close to what I said."
So, pregnancy = act of God. Avalanches and hurricanes = acts of God. Things in between... not so much.

It boggles the mind to think that someone actually believes that a pregnancy resulting from a rape is God's Plan, but the rape itself and/or the abortion afterward somehow aren't. If God has a plan, he knows all of the details, being, y'know, omniscient.

well no, the pregnancy is more god's idea of a "rape consolation prize" you see.

Yes, that's basically what this nutjob is saying.

Completely forgetting that most women recoil at the idea of being permanently connected to their rapist.

Of course it gets better: in most states, rapists can file for visitation rights, even custody rights.

and the unfortueate thing is contained within this article I stumbled accross

            http://www.deseretnews.com/article/8...th-debate.html

It seems the wingnut religious persons are actually defending what he said in reguards to the fetus

while rape is a terrible thing, in the providence of God, this too can be redeemed, a tragic event from which love can emerge."
            LOVE CAN EMERGE???????????????

            WTF????????

These must be the people who want to mandate that a rape child be kept and raised (totally at the Mother's expense) and the mother must let "daddy" have visitation.
I'm lost without a paddle and I'm headed up sh*t creek.

Because let's not forget that women are just potential incubators for the next generation of mindless zombies, designed to form an army so that the Republican party can conquer the world and make it "God's country"-literally.

Also, the idea that a rapist can have visitation/custody rights is just sickening. If that were me, you would bet that I would be trying to abort the kid in any way possible. If it was too late, I would be putting the baby at the rapist's doorstep (since it's uncommon for a rapist to be a stranger...note that I'm not saying rare) with a legal document surrendering custody to the rapist.

Oh, I wouldn't. If that happened to me, I wouldn't get an abortion. What I would do is show up on the rapists doorstep with a few male buddies all armed with baseball bats to make the point that if he shows up and demands visitation, if my car is keyed, if a hair is out of place on the baby's head, the rapist will be blamed and beaten within an inch of his life.

                Then I'd move to Nunavut.

                  And wear pink camo?

I am the legal guardian of my various goddaughters and have been for 10ish years ... and I came out and told the mother's father to his face that if he ever showed up on my doorstep for *any* reason I would shoot him and bury him in the 44+ acres behind the house and produce evidence he was no where near CT at the time. [he spent the mother's childhood raping she, her brother and 2 sisters. There is familial reason that she has decided not to expose him, and her siblings are in denial about the whole damned issue. I actually offered to make him vanish at one point.] With the husband actively deployed repeatedly from 1988-his retirement in 98 they wanted to make sure that if anything happened to put her in the hospital NJ wouldn't just turn the girls over to him as the closest resident relative. We timed it, I can be in Tom's River in under 4 hours in an emergency. Now that 3 of the 6 are over 18 it is not as crucial as the older girls are able to act in loco parentis in an emergency.

Could be one of many things:
                      1. Ignorance of how a woman's body works, and not caring enough to learn.
                      2. Arrogance in feeling they are always right and any opposing view is always wrong.
                      3. Blatant, plain old misogyny.

I really don't know why some woman in the party hasn't smacked these idiots down.

Because most of the women in the party believe the same; whether because they're stupid, willfully ignorant, or they think that their religious beliefs are more important that other people's rights I can neither say nor understand.

                          and it's gotten worse:

                          Behold the "rape halo" statement:

"Scientists say prayer can create a 'rape halo' around a woman's body which instantly renders a potential rapist impotent. I'm not sure how it works exactly. I think its pheromones."
"So I don't think God wants a woman to get raped. He offers her a choice. The rape halo is only a prayer away. If she's too lazy to get on her knees and ask for it, that's her fault. "
